Lancaster County School District officials placed South Middle School on lockdown at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was looking for a suspect in the area of Springdale Road, school officials said, and because of the proximity to South Middle, officials locked down the school.
“We will operate that way the rest of the day until dismissal at 3:20 p.m., and we will dismiss normally,” said Bryan Vaughn, LCSD safety director. “We notified Brooklyn Springs [Elementary] as well, but they have already dismissed for the day and there are no kids there. There’s a prominent amount of law enforcement there [at Springdale Road].”
The sheriff’s office released no information immediately about the suspect or what case this involves.
