The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on an armed robbery late Tuesday night at the Market Express (Exxon), 9540 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land.
Deputies arrived at the store about a minute after the call was dispatched about 11 p.m. June 5.
An employee told deputies she was alone in the store’s office behind the counter, preparing to close, when someone, believed to be a man, came into the store, walked around the counter, pointed a silver handgun at her, and demanded money from the registers, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
The robber told the employee he would not hurt her if she gave him the money, the release said. No shots were fired, and no one was injured, according to the release.
After taking cash and cigarettes – perhaps Newports – the man left the store and walked toward Marvin Road.
The incident was captured by the store’s video surveillance system.
The robber was wearing a royal blue hoodie with the hood pulled over his head, faded blue jeans and light-colored sneakers with darker trim around the toes. His face was covered by fabric and he appeared to be wearing dark gloves.  “This was a pretty brazen robbery,” Sheriff Barry Faile said.  “From the tape, it seems clear the robber was armed with a handgun.
“We have pretty good photos of this person although he was completely covered. I encourage anyone who recognizes this person or his clothing or knows anything about this robbery to contact us.
“You can provide information anonymously. We need to identify and arrest this violent offender as soon as possible.”
