Three men were shot this weekend in an apparent drive-by shooting along S.C. 9 Bypass, though investigators are still searching for suspects.

According to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release, deputies responded to Springs Memorial Hospital at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, after three men with gunshot wounds showed up at the emergency room.

When deputies arrived, they found two 20-year-old men and a 21-year-old man all suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the men had wounds in their extremities and were in stable condition, though the third man was listed in critical condition and flown to a different hospital, the release said.

The victims told investigators they had just left the Waffle House, 1300 S.C. 9 Bypass, after a disturbance there and were driving south along the bypass.

As they approached the Chesterfield Avenue/Flat Creek Road exit (S.C. 903), the men said an unknown person in a SUV drove up beside them and started shooting at their car, the release said.

All three were shot and drove themselves to the emergency room.

Deputies later learned that Lancaster Police Department officers had been called to the business to disperse a crowd just before the shooting incident, the release said.

The sheriff’s office did not have any further information about the shooting on Monday evening, Aug. 25. The status of the victims and the hospital where the third man was taken were all unknown Monday evening.

The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information about those responsible for the shooting to call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 283-3388 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime SC (1-888-274-6372). You can also e-mail or text your anonymous tip to: www.midlandscrimestoppers.com.
