The section of S.C. 97 (Cedar Creek Road) between Green Road and the Kershaw County line is closed after a fuel tanker truck overturned Friday morning, May 14.

S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said the incident happened about 7:05 a.m. near the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Ember Lane.

Miller said a fuel truck was headed north when it encountered a southbound tractor trailer truck that had drifted over the middle line into the other lane.

The southbound truck sideswiped the fuel truck so close they hit mirrors and the driver of the fuel truck drove off the shoulder of the road to avoid a collision and overturned. Miller said the driver of the southbound truck never stopped. The condition of the driver of the fuel truck is not known.

The fuel truck is off the road, but is leaking diesel fuel, as well as gasoline. County firefighters,  DHEC officials, emergency workers and a clean-up crew are at the scene.

It is unknown how long the clean-up will take or when Cedar Creek Road will reopen. Check back later for details.
