The Post 31 Junior Baseball team steamrolled Gaffney, 8-1 on Wednesday night to advance in state tournament play.
Lancaster combined solid defense and timely hitting with a complete game from starting pitcher Chas DeBruhl to win the best-of-three playoff series.
DeBruhl handcuffed a hard-hitting Gaffney Post 109 team much of the night. The hard-throwing left-hander struck out five batters, allowing three walks and a scant two hits.
Post 31 leadoff batter Tyler Vespe had two hits and scored twice. Gavin Phillips had another monster night at the plate, driving in four of Lancaster’s eight runs.
Lancaster topped Gaffney 5-0 on the road Tuesday night after losing 10-0 Monday to set up the third game.
In the Tuesday contest, Post 31 ace pitcher Landon Deese pitched a complete game, striking out seven Gaffney batters. Gavin Phillips had two hits and drove in three runs.
Post 31 now advances and plays Mid-Carolina on the road Monday night.
