Firefighter struck while directing traffic at wreck

 A Lancaster County firefighter was struck and killed while directing traffic at a wreck at the intersection of Highway 521 and Highway 5 Wednesday night.

According to the Lancaster County Coroner's Office, the victim is 59-year-old Dennis Straight of Lancaster. Straight was a firefighter with Charlotte Road-Van Wyck Volunteer Fire Department. 

According to Cpl. Bill Rhyne with S.C. Highway Patrol, Corey Wright, 33, of Kershaw was driving a 2013 Chevy Malibu around 7 p.m. Wednesday when he attempted to merge onto Highway 5 from 521 and struck the firefighter. 
Straight was transported to Springs Memorial Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
The incident is still under investigation.
