Police are hoping several surveillance photos from inside a convenience store will lead them to a man who attacked and robbed a victim earlier this week.

The attack happened at about 9 p.m. Jan. 23 as a person was getting into their car in a parking lot within the 300 block of North Main Street, according to a Lancaster Police Department press release.

The man approached the victim and asked if he could use a cell phone. He then pulled out a large handgun and ordered the victim into the passenger seat of the vehicle, the release said.

Police say the suspect then got into the vehicle and drove to the rear of some businesses where he assaulted the victim. The man then forced the victim to drive to a nearby ATM machine and withdraw money, the release said.

The suspect then told the victim to drive south on Main Street and pull into the parking lot of

Crenco’s convenience store, at 700 S. Main St., where the man got out and allowed the victim to leave the area, the release said.

The police department has released several photos of the man taken from the store's surveillance video, showing the suspect enter and leave the store at approximately 10:07 p.m.

The suspect is described as a black man, between 25 and 35 years old, about 6-feet tall and with a large build. In the surveillance photos, the man is seen wearing a red ski hat, as well as dark-colored pants and a coat.

“The Lancaster Police Department is actively investigating this incident. It is our sincere hope that someone will recognize this suspect and provide us with information concerning his identity and location,” police officials said in the release.

If you have any information about the attack or the suspect, contact the police department at (803) 283-1174 or the anonymous tip hotline at (803) 289-6040. The identity of callers will be kept confidential, the release said.
