LHS Lady Bruins blank South Aiken

Region III-AAAA champion Lancaster blanked South Aiken, 5-0 to open the Class AAAA Upper State softball playoffs on Wednesday night.


LHS senior southpaw pitcher Summer Clinton, the Region III-AAAA Player of the Year and a North-South All-Star selection, tossed a two-hitter, a no-hitter for six innings, and struck out eight. She walked one.

LHS scored two runs in the third and a pair in the fourth to take a 4-0 spread.

Senior catcher Gracie Revels, in the bottom of the fifth, drilled a solo home run for the five-run spread.

Revels, on the day, had a hit and her homer.

Clinton backed her cause with two singles and a pair of RBIs. Brittney Robison supplied two hits.

Sydney Cauthen supplied a hit and a RBI. Ana Watts added a hit for the LHS girls. Senior Ashley Abbott had a sacrifice bunt.

“I’m real proud of these girls,” LHS coach Erin Walker said. “This is a good start and we want to keep it going.”

Lancaster hosts Daniel in second-round play Saturday at 1 p.m.

Lady Jackets roll

Buford High School, the defending Class AA Upper State champion, blitzed Fox Creek, 15-0 to open the Class AA Upstate softball playoffs on Wednesday night.

The Lady Jackets swarmed FCHS for 19 hits in the lopsided win.

Buford bolted to a 9-0 spread after two innings on the way to the victory.

Yancey Dingler hurled a complete game over five frames, which was stopped then due to the 10-run mercy rule. Dingler allowed two hits, six walks. She fanned four.

Lexie Sullivan led the BHS attack with three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Hannah Boone ripped two doubles and drew a walk.

Dingler, at the plate, had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

Tiffani Patterson, Emily Taylor and Hunter Allen each had two hits and drove in a run. Taylor drilled a triple to aid the Lady Jackets.

Kristin Wemes had two hits, two RBIs and was hit by a pitch. Kaylee Shelby contributed two hits.

Kyndal Thomas and Aspen King each had a hit and drove in a run.

Buford advances to face the winner of the St. Joseph’s and Ninety-Six game, which was played Thursday night, in round two Saturday.

Lady Vols win

Region IV-AA regular-season champion Andrew Jackson launched the Class AA Upper State softball playoffs with a 16-0 home win over C.A. Johnson High School of Columbia in three innings on Wednesday.

The game was halted in the third inning due to the mercy rule.

AJ pitcher Rebecca Price hurled a one-hitter and the Lady Vols’ offense backed her with a solid 18-hit attack.

Price aided her cause with two hits and drove in three runs.

AJ advances to play the winner of the Liberty vs. Blacksburg game, which was played Thursday night. The Lady Vols are slated to play the Liberty vs. Blacksburg winner tonight.

Lady Warriors host

The Region IV-AAA champion Indian Land Lady Warriors hosted Berea of Greenville to open the Class AAA District IV softball playoffs on Thursday.

The winner advances to round two Saturday.
