Lancaster High School boys basketball coach Ricardo Priester will be part of the inaugural Junior Showcase this weekend at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia.
The Showcase is part of the inaugural S.C. High School Hoops Festival.
Priester will serve as a coach on the boys West junior all-star team, which will also include Thomas Ryan of Westside High School in Anderson.
“We selected coaches who have had experience dealing with college coaches in the past,” said event organizer Carey Rich, the former USC basketball standout and Columbia native. “Coach Priester has experience in dealing with college coaches. I’ve know coach Priester for 25 years and his experience of playing college basketball and working with college coaches will come into play.”
A year ago, Priester served as an assistant in the annual North-South All-Star game.
Rich said the event, which features girls and boys games for top state players in the class of 2017, is the junior version of the North-South All-Star basketball games.
The East coaches are Zach Norris of Keenan High School and Jeff Dibatisto of Dreher High School in Columbia.
The girls East coaches are Anne Long of Spring Valley and Cedric Simpson of Orangeburg-Wilkinson. The girls West coaches are Faye Norris of Dutch Fork High School and Tim Baldwin of Goose Creek.
The girls East junior all-star squad includes Andrew Jackson High School standout post player Alexxus Sowell, who earned all-region honors for the Lady Vols this season.
Sowell averaged 13.8 points, 14 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots per game. The Lady Vols went 21-4 and  won the region championship with a 12-0 record.
