The Katawba Valley Land Trust’s 2016 Speaker Series will continue Aug. 18 with award-winning landscape architect Rick Huffman.
Huffman is an environmental designer and conservationist who has lead efforts in sustainable building and landscape design. He is founder of Earth Design, a landscape architecture firm based in Pickens, and also the founder of the S.C. Native Plant  Society.
Huffman’s talk will explore landscape applications, historic perspectives and knowledge of plant community models. The goal is to help make us better stewards of the natural world and break the cycle of
chemical dependency, while conserving and cleaning our water.
The talk will demonstrate how native plants and applied ecology can help solve environmental problems, build habitats for wildlife and provide beautiful low-maintenance landscapes.
Huffman’s free lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Carole Ray Dowling Center at the University of South Carolina Lancaster.
