Lancaster area drivers posted a strong showing at the annual Turkey Day race at the Sumter Speedway on Saturday.
In the Extreme 4 race, driver Brad McManus captured the win in his heat race in his first-ever visit to the Sumter track.
Chris Baker also made his first-ever visit to the historic race track.
When the green flag dropped, McManus and Baker proved they would be factors in the race for the win. McManus ran second the whole race, trying to run down race leader Rusty Harrelson.
McManus was close, but was unable to make a move for the lead. Baker was in a battle the entire race with numerous drivers such as Chelsea L’Huillier, Trent Herring, D.J. Carraway and John Ledwell.
When the checkered flag dropped, McManus came away with a second-place finish as he continued his impressive run at numerous tracks after the racing season ended at Lancaster Super Speedway.
Baker came away with a hard-fought sixth-place finish.
In the Street Stock main event, Pebo Johnson was the lone Lancaster Super Speedway driver making the trip to Sumter.
Johnson held his own against the best the Sumter Speedway had to offer during the Saturday race.
Johnson, throughout the event, raced with the leader and at one point was even battling for the lead with Robbie Disher.
Disher entered turn one slow and Johnson made contact with Disher, sending Disher spinning out into the inside wall.
Johnson and Disher went to the rear of the field. Johnson worked his way up to a fourth-place finish against some of the best Street Stock drivers in the Sumter race.
Sumter Speedway is racing again Saturday night. For more about the race, visit the Sumter Speedway group page on facebook, or call David Duke at (803) 460-5701.
