Davis, Henry pace ILHS track awards

Class AAA individual state track champions Marlin Davis and Leah Henry led the 2018 Indian Land High School track awards.
Davis, a junior sprinter who garnered the ILHS boys track MVP, captured the 200 meters state crown in 21.64 at the Class AAA boys meet at Spring Valley High School in Pontiac on May 12.
Davis had a stellar day at the state meet. In the 100 meters, he dashed a 10.70 effort to place second for a silver medal.
Davis was also fourth in the 400-meter dash, posting a 49.46, followed by teammate Coby Hall in fifth with a 50.99 finish.
The 4x400-meter ILHS boys relay team of Deshon Harris, Brian Adams, Devonte Harris and Hall combined to place second in 3:26.66. Warriors freshman Grant Witherspoon placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.11.
Davis raced to Region IV-AAA track titles in the 100, 200 and 400 dashes.
Henry, in earning the ILHS girls track MVP, helped the Lady Warriors to a fifth-place finish overall in the 32-team Class AAA state field with 34 points.
Henry posted a 58.90 to win the Class AAA 400-meter dash. She was sixth in the 200-meter dash with a 25.77 effort. Henry also teamed with Kendall Sullivan, Page Law and Empress Fitzgerald to finish sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a 50.81 effort.
Henry was also the region champion in the 400- and 200-meter dashes.
Fitzgerald, the ILHS girls track Warrior Award winner, finished sixth in the girls long jump at the state meet with a 15-06.75 effort.
Distance runner Kaitlyn Rodman earned the Coaches Award. Rodman, a sophomore, finished fourth in the 1600 run with a 5:31.43 at the state meet. She is also a standout on the ILHS girls cross country team. She won region crowns in the 4 x 800, 800-, 1600- and 3200-meters.
Blakely Hardin was honored as the girls team’s Most Improved Performer. Hardin was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, 17:35. She was a Class AAA Upper State qualifier in the 100 hurdles.
The Warriors, in addition to Davis, honored Grant Witherspoon as the Most Improved Performer.
Witherspoon was a Class AAA Upstate qualifier in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles.
Philippe Wylie earned the Coaches Award and Coby Hall was the Warrior Award recipient for ILHS boys track.
Hall teamed with Deshon Harris, Brian Adams and Devonte Harris to win the 4 x 400 at the region meet. Hall was a Class AAA Upstate qualifier in the 400 meters and was an alternate on the 4 x 100 meters.
The Warriors, who placed second in the Region IV-AAA meet in Camden, were eighth in the 30-team Class AAA boys state meet with 29 points.
