Up, Up and Away!

Children attending Vacation Bible School at Covenant Baptist Church from June 16 to 20 learned about biblical superheroes and then performed their own acts of justice and mercy.

Scripture for the week was Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To Act Justly and to Love Mercy and to Walk Humbly With Your God.”

School age kids who attended VBS partnered up with Sole Hope (www.solehope.org), whose mission by cutting out shoe parts that will be sent to Uganda.

Founded by Asher Collie, and based in Asheville, Sole Hope provides closed toe shoes to African children.

Its goal was inspired by children infected with insects that lay eggs in their bare feet that cause sores, infection and sometimes amputation.

Once there, the soles will be made in to shoes by local shoemakers and then distributed to children who have come to a Sole Hope  medical clinic because they have contracted jiggers and are at risk for serious infections because they don’t have shoes and live in desperate poverty.

VBS groups also decorated hats that will be sent to children all over the world through Operation Christmas Child (www.samaritanspurse.org).

Through Up and Away:

• Eighty-five children know that God loves them, and Jesus Christ died for them and can give them power to do great things

• Cut out pieces for 62 shoes (31 pairs), $41 donation for medical supplies along with supplies donated plus a $150 donation by the Covenant Baptist Senior Adult Luncheon Group for Sole Hope
