County students on 2-hour delay Wednesday

The Lancaster County School District will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday due to the possible impact of early morning temperatures on school buses.
Wednesday morning’s low temperature is forecast at about 15 degrees.
The district’s teachers and 12-month employees will report to work on normal schedule.

Fire destroys Brooklyn Avenue home

Fire destroyed a Brooklyn Avenue home on Friday morning. Firefighters from multiple county fire departments were called to the scene about 10:49 a.m. No one was there at the time and the home was a total loss. For more, see the Sunday, Dec. 24 edition of The Lancaster News.

Correction

Incorrect information from county officials resulted in an error in Friday’s article about Indian Land subdivision developers arranging to have their roads accepted into the county system. Rosemont’s developer has contacted county officials about meeting a Dec. 31 paperwork deadline and plans to submit its documents on time.

Kershaw fire kills elderly woman

A 83-year-old Kershaw woman died in a fire at her home Monday morning, one of three residential fires across the county in two days.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Bonnie F. Hilton, who lived on West Welsh Street. An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
The Kershaw, Flat Creek and Heath Springs volunteer fire departments responded to the home around 9 a.m., along with full-time Lancaster County firefighters, according to Lancaster County Fire Marshal Russell Rogers.

Man identified as 47-year-old Terry Louis 'Butch' Thompson

Dead gunshot victim found on E. Dunlap

A man was found shot to death on East Dunlap Street in Lancaster early Wednesday, and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has identified him as 47-year-old Terry Louis “Butch” Thompson.     
Patrolling city police officers found Thompson lying on the ground about 1:17 a.m. near the intersection of East Dunlap Street and Thomas Lane. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was dead, according to a Lancaster Police Department release.

Mildred Arnold’s body discovered by her daughter Sunday

Man charged in wife’s killing

A 58-year-old woman's body was found by her daughter Sunday morning at a South York Street home, bludgeoned to death with a hammer, and her husband has been charged with murder.
Mildred Burris Arnold has been identified as the victim, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.
Matthew James Alman, 49, 213 S. York St., was charged with murder on Monday.
“There’s still a lot we don’t know because he’s not talking to us,” said Lancaster Police Chief Scott Grant.

Single-vehicle wreck kills Lancaster woman

A Lancaster woman was killed in a single-vehicle car accident late Sunday night on Great Falls Highway.

The woman has been identified by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office as 24-year-old Kasey Pepper. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Clemson, Auburn join to fight world hunger

CLEMSON – The two rivals faced off on the gridiron last weekend, but Clemson University and Auburn University are united off the field in supporting the World Food Programme’s efforts to defeat hunger.

“I am enormously proud that Clemson is exploring ways to join Auburn and WFP in our joint fight against hunger,” said WFP Executive Director David Beasley. “Defeating hunger is an enormous challenge, but if we tackle it together, we know this is a fight we can win.”
