  • Bruins net two wins over Falcons

    The Lancaster Bruins made the most of a short road trip to Fort Mill on Dec. 15.
    The LHS teams posted a hardwood sweep of Class AAAA foe Nation Ford High School at the Falcons’ gym.
    The Lady Bruins, 6-2, notched a 51-45 win and the Bruins, rebounding from a two-point road loss to county rival Andrew Jackson, posted a 63-58 win.
    Lancaster, 3-3 on the season, took control of the game in the second period. LHS held a 13-12 edge after one period, but picked up the pace with a 19-6 surge to gain a 32-18 lead at the half.

  • Vols sweep BHS Jackets

    Andrew Jackson capped a Region IV-AA basketball sweep of county rival Buford with a 75-54 win in the packed Jackets’ gym on Dec. 15.
    The Lady Volunteers opened the hardwood action, posting a tough 39-31 victory over the Lady Jackets.
    The nightcap was all AJ as the No. 4 Vols, 4-1, took control in the second period on the way to the 21-point road win.
    AJ held a 14-11 edge after one period, and began to build its lead in the second period when the Vols outscored the Jackets, 26-10 for a 40-21 halftime edge.

  • Palmetto United 00 Boys Gold...

    The Palmetto United 00 Boys Gold, after winning the SCYSA PMSL 1 East Division, set its   sight on the coveted State Cup.
    The opening day featured a beautiful Dec. 5 morning when PUFC launched the tournament with a 4-0 win over CFC Premier.
    PUFC goals were scored by Luis Alanis, Jaime Bonilla, Martin Cruz to go with an own goal for the 4-0 win.
    The second match was a little more challenging as the PUFC boys rallied to secure a 2-1 victory on goals by Martin Cruz and Luis Alanis.

  • Roscoe notes key factors fuel...

    MYRTLE BEACH – Coach Johnny Roscoe has compiled over 300 wins and won five state championships while coaching at five different Carolinas high schools, including Lancaster High School.
    Friday night – high school football’s game night – Roscoe, a 47-year coaching veteran, provided his game plan for success over all those seasons.
    That success earned him his latest honor – induction into the second class of the S.C. High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Dec. 11 at the Landmark Resort in Myrtle Beach.

  • Rec stars fall in state title bid

    Lancaster County Parks and Recreation small fry all-star coach Kris Self, despite a loss in the state championship game, said he was still proud of the 9-10 all-stars’ postseason run.
    The Lancaster County stars captured the Central District title and the Upper State crown on the way to the state title game against the City of Florence all-stars at River Bluff High School in Lexington on Dec. 12.

  • Buford Middle splits hoops games...

    The Buford Middle School basketball teams split a doubleheader with South Middle School on Dec. 14.
    In the opening contest, the Buford Middle School girls posted a huge win, 52-6 victory over South.
    BMS, in the first period, took a 12-0 lead.
    Buford then forged a 16-4 edge going into halftime.
    During the third quarter, Buford Middle turned up the offense on South, scoring 20 points and taking a 36-6 lead into the final quarter. In the final period, Buford still held the hot hand to take a 52-6 win.

  • County 10U soccer team posts 2-2...

    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation 9-10 youth soccer all-stars went 2-2 in the state tournament held at Beaufort on Dec. 5-6.
    The Lancaster County 9-10 stars posted a 3-1 win to open play against the Southern host on Dec. 5.
    Sergio Pavon tallied a first-half goal and Braxton Cordova along with Kevin Cruz scored in the second half for the 3-1 win.
    In the 3 p.m. match, the Lancaster County stars dropped a 1-0 soccer loss on a goal scored in the second half.

  • Warriors’ wrestlers split non-...

    Host Indian Land split in a pair of non-region matches Dec. 10.
    The Warriors topped Lancaster, 54-24 and fell to Parkwood High on Union County, N.C.
    Warriors’ wrestler Will Van Hoose posted his 100th career win during the tri-match. He is 101-54 in his Warriors’ career.
    “Our seniors are doing a great job by leading by example,” IL coach Kevin Mager said. “We wrestled tough tonight.”
    IL competed in a dual tournament at White Knoll High on Dec. 12.

  • Buford Middle sweeps North...

    Buford Middle School posted a basketball sweep of North Central on Dec. 10.
    The Lady Jackets prevailed 32-20 and the BMS boys took a 45-35 win.
    In the girls game, Buford built a 22-7 halftime lead on the way to the 12-point win.
    Paige Davis, with 10 points and six rebounds, was the BMS offensive player of the game. The Lady Jackets’ defensive player of the game was Sophie Ribelin, who had eight points, five rebounds and six steals.

  • Warriors drop two at Marvin Ridge

    Indian Land traveled across state lines to Waxhaw, N.C., on Friday, Dec. 11, dropping a twin bill to Marvin Ridge.
    The Mavericks, who swept the Warriors Dec. 3 at the Warriors home gym, did the same on their home court.
    The Marvin Ridge girls cruised to a 62-38 win and the Mavericks held on the top the Warriors 74-61.
