  • Rain washes out Bruins-Vols game

    Rain washed out baseball play Monday night at Lancaster High School’s Doomsday Corner.

    The Bruins were hosting county rival Andrew Jackson High School for their second meeting of the 2017 prep baseball season, but a late evening rain halted action in the bottom of the second inning.

    Lancaster held a 2-1 lead on the Volunteers, but the game was stopped and won’t be reset due to region games to be played and no dates available to play a make-up game.

  • Druw Rollings returns to hoops...

    Former Buford High School boys basketball star Druw Rollings is returning to the hardwood.

    Rollings, a 6-5 post player who graduated at BHS in 2016, is going back to hoops to play at Columbia International University in Columbia.

    Holy week has been a challenge with the death of three longtime friends.

    The trio includes David McIsaac, Phillip “Corky” Holliday and Robert Gardner.

    Can’t quite recall when I saw each of them last, but they were good guys in their own way.

    Like us all, they had their share of flaws, but at the end of the day, it was fun to be around each man.

  • LHS girls have solid run in...

    Lancaster High School’s Lady Bruins softball team went 3-2 in the 27th annual Azalea Invitational tournament at Summerville earlier this week.

    LHS opened play, rolling to three straight wins.

    The Lady Bruins topped Northwood Academy of Charleston, 5-3 and followed with a 3-2 win over the Summerville High Lady Wave.

  • Lady Vols seek consistent play

    Andrew Jackson High School veteran girls soccer coach Lee Hanna is looking for a level of consistency as the Lady Volunteers hit the home stretch of their 2017 season.

    Hanna, in his fifth season guiding the Lady Vols, has his share of experience this spring.

  • Warriors split in Wheels tourney...

    ROCK HILL – Indian Land High School split a pair of games in the Wheels Baseball Invitational tournament at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill on Thursday.

    The 12-8 Warriors, who opened play Wednesday with a 5-1 win over Class AAAAA foe Clover High School, defeated Christiansburg High School (Va.), 8-2 and dropped a 3-1 loss to the tournament host SPHS Stallions on Thursday.

  • 11th Running for Ryan Saturday

    The 11th annual Running for Ryan Lancaster County track meet, a highlight of the county track season, is Saturday at the Lancaster High School track.

    The Running for Ryan meet also serves as an event to promote a greater awareness of KLS – Klein Levin Syndrome.

    The meet is held in memory of Ryan McKinney, a former Lancaster High School track athlete who died in 2006 of cardiac arrhythmia.

    CAMDEN – Buford and Indian Land junior varsity softball teams captured tournament titles played at the Larry Doby Fields in Camden earlier this month.

    The fields, part of the Kershaw County Recreation Department, are named in honor of Larry Doby, the Camden native who was the first black player in the American League.

  • Sanchez-Gelpke to lead LCPRC...

    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Piranhas swim team will have a new coach for the upcoming summer season.

    The team will be led by Daniela Sanchez-Gelpke, who came to Lancaster from Huntersville, N.C., with her husband, Ray, and son, Devan. 

    Coach Sanchez-Gelpke has more than 20 years of coaching experience in competitive swimming and has coached summer league swim teams in Huntersville and Cumming, Ga.

  • Vols golfers win two, up record...

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers upped their record to 5-4 on the golf season, topping a tri-match at the White Plains Country Club in Pageland on Thursday.

    The Vols shot a 176 to 189 for McBee and 237 for the Central Eagles.

    Emily Cox and Mason Sowell each shot a 40, followed by Dakota Roberts' 42 and Andrew Bowers' 54.

    Raegen Brewer carded a 57, her lowest round of the season.
