  • Griffins roll to win over...

    INDIAN LAND – It was senior night for the Indian Land Warriors, and they faced a very tough opponent in the region-leading Fairfield Central Griffins.

    The third-ranked Griffins, 7-2, 3-0, proved how tough they can be, rushing for 388 yards and didn’t punt until the start of the fourth quarter in their 39-8 win Friday night.

  • Blazers charge back, down Bruins

    Lancaster had the early points, but as it turned out sixth-ranked Ridge View scored the final points in a 29-26 Region III-AAAA win over the Bruins on Friday night.

    The 8-1 Blazers’ comeback win foiled Lancaster’s fast start on LHS Senior Night at Memorial Stadium. The Bruins, 4-2 at one point this season, dropped their third straight loss.

  • Haven-led Vols jolt Jackets

    BUFORD – The 10th-ranked Andrew Jackson Volunteers concluded their regular season in impressive fashion Friday night, posting their third straight win and seventh of the year, ripping rival Buford 33-7 at Jackets Stadium.

     AJ, behind the running and passing of Dalton Haven, cruised to the 26-point win on BHS Senior night.

    FORT MILL – Andrew Jackson High School senior football stalwart Dalton “Tex” Haven was a rare double winner at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday at the Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.
    Haven, for his play in AJ’s 35-12 win over seventh-ranked Lee Central of Bishopville, was selected the Division II (Class AAA-AA-A) Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Defensive Lineman of the Week for the Vols ranked 10th in the Class AA state poll this week.

  • Lady Vols rally to advance in AA...

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers’ volleyball earned a little postseason court revenge Wednesday night in the opening round of the Class AA Upper State playoffs in the AJ gym.
    Two seasons ago, Liberty knocked Andrew Jackson out of the playoffs, so for the Lady Vols, it was payback time.
    “We knew it was going to be a battle as Liberty consistently produces strong teams,” AJ coach John Verdugo said. “Liberty’s coach Carla Simpson always has her teams ready to play good volleyball.”

    For three senior members of the Lancaster High secondary – Keenan Barnes, C.D. Catoe and Nigel McCollum – last takes on significant meaning tonight at Memorial Stadium.
    The Bruins’ senior trio represents the last line of defense on what will likely be their last game at the LHS field.
    The Lancaster playoff hopes, which hinge on this game and the road contest next Thursday with Richland Northeast, will likely have the Bruins on the road.

  • Cox captures state crown

    Emily Cox’s clutch eagle putt soared her to a lofty perch she had long sought Tuesday afternoon.
    Cox, an Andrew Jackson High School girls senior golfer competing as an individual in the Class AAA golf tournament at the Carolina Springs Golf Club in Fountain Inn, earned the coveted state medalist.
    Cox, a prep golf competitor for six years, saved her best for last.
    In her final hole of her final round as a prep golfer, Cox sank a clutch 15-foot eagle putt to give her the Class AAA individual state championship.

  • Charlotte, Harris tracks host...

    The Dirt Track at Charlotte will host the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World finals this weekend. Racing at Charlotte will be The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars, World of Outlaw Late Models and Big-Block Modifieds of the Super DIRTcar Series.

  • Volleyball teams to launch state...

    Three Lancaster County high school volleyball teams will launch their state title hopes in the state playoffs today.
    Teams from Andrew Jackson and Indian Land will be at home after placing in the top two in regular-season play which ended last week.
    AJ, which fell to North Central, 3-0 in a special playoff for the region volleyball title last Thursday at Buford, will be at home to face Liberty.
    The AJ-Liberty winner advances to face the Gray Collegiate vs. Christ Church winner on Monday.
