  • Rivers helps Bulls to CIAA title

    Former Lancaster High School basketball star Malia Rivers scored 10 points to help the Johnson C. Smith women’s team to the CIAA championship on Saturday at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

    Rivers, a freshman guard selected to the CIAA All-Rookie team, netted three treys in the final period to help Smith to the 68-59 win over Virginia State.

  • Jackets’ Barton caps mat career...

    Dakota Barton’s third goal for the 2016-17 high school wrestling season will be reached this weekend.

    Barton, coming off his second-straight Class A-AA 220-pound state wrestling championship, will be in action this weekend for the final time in his Jackets’ mat career.

    Barton, a senior, is set to compete in the 29th annual North-South All-Star Wrestling Classic at North Myrtle Beach High School.

  • Buford, AJ unbeaten in softball...

    The host Buford High School Lady Jackets and Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers are each 2-0 in pool play for the 2017 preseason varsity softball tournament at the BHS field.

    Buford, the defending Class AA state champion, has posted a pair of shutouts in its two pool play tournament games.

    The BHS girls opened with a 10-0 win over Class AAA foe Chester on Monday and downed Central High School of Pageland, 7-0.

  • Lancers take three from Patriots

    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers captured three of four games over the Patrick Henry Community College Patriots over the weekend at the Lancaster High School field.

    The Lancers capped the four-game series with two lopsided wins in five innings – 19-6 and 15-4.

    The 18-3 Lancers took control with 16 runs in the bottom of the second on four home runs.

  • Lady Bruins capture Kickoff...

    The Lancaster High Lady Bruins soccer team captured the championship in the Lugoff-Elgin Kickoff Classic at Lugoff-Elgin High School on Monday night.

    The LHS girls, 3-1, captured the title with a 2-0 win over host Lugoff-Elgin.

    Kendra Haddox, assisted by Michaela Burton, tallied a goal. Burton scored on a penalty kick earned by Mary DeVenny.

    Jaden McGriff posted the shutout.

  • Barton repeats Class A-AA 220-...

    Buford High School’s Dakota Barton reached the top again to stake his claim as a multiple state wrestling champion at the Anderson Civic Center on Saturday.

    Barton posted a tough 2-1 win over Cody Fleming of Ninety Six High School in Greenwood County to notch his second straight 220-pound state championship in the Class A-AA individual state tournament.

  • Vols’ first state titles comes...

    The Andrew Jackson High School wrestling team had an “orange-letter day” in the Class A-AA individual state tournament at the Anderson Civic Center on Saturday night.

    The Volunteers, in only their fifth year of wrestling, captured three state titles in the tourney.

    The Vols’ first state mat champions are sophomores Dalton Mackey (113), Hunter Haven (138) and senior Dalton “Tex” Haven (195).

  • Warriors duo earns gold, makes...

    The Indian Land High School wrestling team achieved gold and some Warriors’ wrestling history at the Class AAA state wrestling tournament at the Anderson Civic Center on Saturday.

    Indian Land High wrestlers Chad Milasauskas and Austin Ross each captured state crowns in their respective weight classes at the individual state tournament.

  • Lady Cavs roll by AJ for Upstate...

    GREENVILLE – The Christ Church Lady Cavaliers have the last two Class A girls state basketball crowns in their trophy case, with another in Class AA in their grasp.

    CC, 26-2, looked quite capable of taking the AA girls hoops gold after rolling to a 63-25 win over Andrew Jackson High School in the Class AA Upper State title game Friday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville.

  • Vols hold off Bruins in...

    Andrew Jackson sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored five runs on the way to a 9-8 win over rival Lancaster in the AJ bracket of the Comporium Preseason Invitational baseball tournament at the Volunteers’ field on Monday night.

    Heath Gandy’s two-run double gave AJ what proved to be the winning run.

    Gavin Phillips also had a hit and drove in a pair of runs in the Vols’ winning rally.
