  • Lady Jackets look to younger...

    The Buford High School girls soccer team, coming off a banner season, is looking to younger players to help the Lady Jackets have more success this season.

    Coach Bob Bowen, in his fourth season leading the BHS girls soccer program, has only three senior starters for the 2018 season.

    A year ago, BHS went 16-1, with nine returning players, including five starters.

    The senior trio includes halfback Payton Howell, defender Cassie Bailey and captain Jadon Vick, a defender.

  • Warriors salute this season’s...

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land High School head basketball coach Nate Smith has presented a host of hoops honors to salute the 2017-18 Warriors.

    Indian Land, which finished 11-14 overall and 4-4 in Region IV-AAA, was third in region play and earned a Class AAA Upper State playoff berth for the second straight season.

    A year ago, ILHS was fourth in region play in its first season in Class AAA basketball.

    Senior guard Jerrick Palmer, one of two all-region picks this season, was saluted as the ILHS Offensive Player of the Year.

  • Lady Cycs clip AJ girls

    Chester High School prevailed in penalty kicks to take a 2-1 girls soccer win over Andrew Jackson High School at Volunteer Stadium on Thursday night.

    AJ’s Taylor Lundy scored the Lady Vols’ lone goal in regulation.

    The two teams battled through the overtime periods, but were unable to score.

    The hard-fought match went to penalty kicks and the Lady Cyclones outshot the AJ girls.

    In the shootout, the Lady Cyclones converted on five shots to four for AJ.

  • Vols booters top Cheraw, 4-1

    The Andrew Jackson High School boys soccer team upper its record to 7-1 on the season with a 4-1 win over Cheraw on Tuesday night at Volunteer Stadium.

    Mason McKittrick scored two goals to spark AJ to the Region IV-AA win over the Braves.

    Jared Truesdale, off a Rhett Bowers’ assist, scored the Vols’ first goal.

    Bryce Phillips, who had two assists, assisted McKittrick on AJ’s second goal.

    McKittrick was assisted by Luke Faulkenberry on McKittrick’s second tally.

  • Tiger fans savoring Sweet 16 shot

    The Clemson Tigers are charging hard into the NCAA Sweet 16 and CU basketball fans are savoring the hardwood success.

    Former Clemson player Mike Bohonak is elated with the Tigers’ two tourney wins, looking for more.

    “I knew they had a good team, but never expected this,” said Bohonak, who played for the Tigers in the mid-1960s. “I’m a lot more optimistic now than I was before.”

  • Red Hawks edge Bruins in extra...

    The Lancaster Bruins dropped a 5-3 home baseball loss in nine innings to Westwood High School of Blythewood in Region III-AAAA play at the LHS field on Tuesday night.

    Westwood defeated the Bruins, 1-0 earlier this month.

    Anson Taylor, who worked 2.2 innings in relief, took the loss. He allowed four hits, two walks and a pair of runs. Taylor struck out one.

    Logan Phillips pitched 6.1 innings, yielding eight hits, two walks and three runs. He fanned three.

  • Veterans key in IL softball...

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Lady Warriors softball team has a strong returning cast back from the 2017 team, which finished 18-7 and captured the Region IV-AAA title.

    The Lady Warriors are led by head coach Monica Barfield, who is in her second season leading ILHS softball.

    Barfield, a former ILHS star softball player, returned to the team last season after guiding the Lady Warriors to Class A state softball titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

  • Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models...

    The Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models will invade Lancaster Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

    During the 2017 racing season at LMS, the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series averaged between 18-21 cars at the half-mile dirt track.

    Speedway winners for the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series were Ben Watkins and  Adam Yarbrough with two wins each and Doug Sanders with a checkers.

    The Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models consist of Super Late Models, 525's Late Models, Limited Late Models and Crate Late Models combined.

  • Lady Bruins lace Westwood

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins softball team rolled to a 17-0 win over Westwood on Tuesday night at the LHS field.

    The game ended in three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

    LHS senior hurler Summer Clinton pitched the first two innings and struck out six and Madison Morris worked the third frame and whiffed two.

    Gracie Revels led the LHS offense with three hits, including a grand slam, with six runs batted in.

    Clinton had two hits, including a home run, with five RBIs.

    Kadaja Cunningham had two hits and drove in a run. 

  • Bruins top Bearcats

    The Lancaster High School boys tennis team captured a closely contested 4-3 match over Class AAAAA foe Rock Hill High School.

    With the match split at 3-3, the Bruins’ Isaac Thomas and Connor Palmeri defeated Henry Sharp and Whit Strickland, 6-4, 6-2 to pull out the close LHS win.
