  • Cox to play in U.S. Women’s...

    Andrew Jackson High School junior ace golfer Emily Cox has earned a bid to play in the prestigious 2015 U.S. Women’s State Team National Championship golf tournament.
    Cox, through a spring and summer of success, will play in the elite tournament Sept. 7-12 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
    “This is a big honor and I’m so proud of Emily,” AJ High golf coach Champ Williams said.
    Team members are selected based on points earned in USGA-sponsored tournaments. The three women with the highest points from each state form a team.

  • LHS’s Johnson, IL’s Medlock reap...

    RICHBURG – The Tri-County Football Coaches Association opened its 2015 meeting schedule, honoring a host of area players Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Front Porch Restaurant in Richburg.
    Two Lancaster County prep football players were saluted for their play in games Friday, Aug. 28.
    Lancaster High School senior offensive lineman Lewis Johnson earned the Division II Offensive Lineman of the Week, while Indian Land kicker Matthew Medlock reaped the Division II Special Teams Player of the Week for week one
    Johnson had three pancake blocks and graded 88 percent.

  • Veterans key in Buford...

    The Buford High School Lady Jackets volleyball team has an upbeat outlook for the 2015 fall campaign.
    Coach Taylor Roberts’ BHS team has its share of experience for the new season after posting a Region IV-AA runner-up finish and earning a Class AA Upper State playoff bid in 2014.
    BHS, 15-5 last fall, advanced to the second round before falling to Liberty High School in the Class AA Upstate volleyball tournament.

  • Returnees give LHS strong hope...

    Hopes are high for the Lancaster Lady Bruins volleyball team this season.
    LHS, 15-8 overall last fall, advanced to the Class AAA Upper State third round. The Lady Bruins were 9-1 in winning the region title, their first league title in 25 seasons.
    “All of our varsity players from last year returned,” LHS coach Betsy O’Shields said. “We lost zero seniors last season and have everyone back.  We also have two additions to the team this year that have been in our program at the junior varsity level.

  • Teams host Friday night

    Lancaster County teams will have the home-field edge Friday night, Sept. 4 for week two in the high school football season.
    All county teams will be in the host role Friday.
    Lancaster and Indian Land, each coming off opening night road wins, will have their home openers.
    Lancaster will host Richland Northeast, while Indian Land will have the welcome mat out for Blacksburg High of Cherokee County.
    Buford will be home to face 0-2 Great Falls and AJ will be in Volunteer Stadium for the second straight week as the Vols host McBee.

  • Barrett notches second straight...

    Scott Barrett made it two straight, taking the M&M Garage Extreme 4 main event Saturday, Aug. 29 at Lancaster Super Speedway.
    The front row had David Laney and Scott Barrett, and when the green flag dropped to start the main event, it was Laney, Barrett, Adam Bowers and Chris Baker battling for the lead.
    Barrrett led exiting turn two, while Laney chased. As the laps ticked off, Barrett extended his lead over Laney.

  • Lady Jackets win over Vols

    The Buford High School volleyball team moved its record to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over county and Region IV-AA rival Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday, Aug. 27.
    AJ opened with a 25-23 win, but Buford answered with three straight wins – 25-15, 25-22 and 25-19.
    “I can not brag enough on my girls last night (Thursday),” BHS coach Taylor Roberts said. “We made some major changes and the girls were able to implement and adjust effectively.

  • Warriors rally late to edge...

    The first football game of the year for Buford and Indian Land may very well be the game of the year.
    Both teams battling toe to toe all the way to the wire. In dramatic fashion, Indian Land’s Matthew Medlock hit a 22-yard field goal to end the game and give the visiting Warriors a 39-38 win on Friday, Aug. 28 at BHS’s Jackets Stadium.
    It was almost déjà vu for the Jackets. In the team’s second meeting last season, Buford’s Wade Lambert kicked the game-winning 32-yard field goal that gave Buford a 23-21 home win.

  • Bruins blitz Vols 48-0

    KERSHAW – Lancaster started fast to fuel a 48-0 football win over Class AA county rival Andrew Jackson High School at Volunteer Stadium on Friday, Aug. 28.
    The Bruins’ first-half blitz sparked a 34-0 halftime lead on the way to the shutout win.

    Knights go to 2-0
    The North Central Knights improved to 2-0 on the season, taking a 42-22 home win over Timmonsville
    The Knights’ Cedric Cunningham ran for 115 yards and two scores and also returned n interception for a touchdown in NC’s win over the Whirlwinds.
    Deaunte Samuel tallied two scores and had 60 yards rushing in the win.
    Red Devils fall
    Great Falls fell to 0-2 on the season, suffering a 68-0 loss to Gray Collegiate of Columbia.
