    Walhalla Post 124’s decision to forfeit the fifth game in the best of 5 American Legion Playoffs is sending Lancaster Post 31 to the second round of state playoffs.

    Walhalla forfeited playing the fifth game that was scheduled to be played Friday, July 10, at the Harvey Eggleton Field in Lancaster because the Post 124 team is dismantling.

    Former Lewisville High School star Sheldon Brown is one of eight former USC Gamecocks athletes, who will be inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame for 2015.

    Brown, along with seven other individuals, will be honored and inducted Thursday, Sept. 10, in The Zone at Williams Brice Stadium, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Inductions will begin at 6:45 p.m. The eight USC greats will also be recognized at the Carolina vs. Kentucky football game on Sept. 12.

    The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association tees off the second half of its 2015 season Monday, July 13, at the Kershaw Golf Club.

    The 2015 LJGA points races for each age group reflect tight play.

    In the boys 10-12 age division, Mason Tucker leads the points through three tournaments with 80 points, with Trey Crenshaw third at 70. Simon Wright is third, 56 points.

    In the boys 7-9 age group, Landry Williams leads the points for the season with 70 and David Oliver has 60. Brady Snipes has 58 points in third place.

    Lancaster Post 31 leads the best of 5 American Legion Baseball Playoffs, 2 games to 1, after a hard fought road victory at Walhalla Post 124 Tuesday, June 7.

    Lancaster rallied late to take the one run win, 6-5.

    Post 31, 10-9, opened the first round of playoffs at home Monday night, June 6, splitting a double header.

    Walhalla won the opening game 4-2 and Lancaster bounced back to take the second game 6-1.

    In game three, Lancaster took command early and jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

  • Ozone, AA stars open state play

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball Ozone all-stars are set to open state tournament play.

    The Ozone stars, ages 11-12, completed an impressive 3-0 run in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 tournament with a 15-3 win over the Lewisville stars on Friday, June 19 at Ronnie Gandy Field in the Wylie Park Complex.

    The championship game actually began Thursday, June 18, but was stopped by a late-afternoon thunderstorm with the Lancaster stars holding a 4-1 lead on the Chester County team.

    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Dixie Softball Angels all-stars are set to continue their postseason diamond run in the state tournament.

    The Lancaster Angels stars, age 10-under, notched two do-or-die wins over Jefferson to take the district championship June 24.

    Lancaster, in the title round, opened play with an impressive 19-4 win over Jefferson to force a second game for the championship.

    Lancaster Super Speedway is back in racing action Saturday, July 11. Headlining the racing action will be the return of the Limited Late Models.

    Limited Late Models have been one of the most popular divisions at Lancaster for years. The Speedway staff is excited to have them back.

    Earlier this year, Timbo Mangum captured the only Limited Late Model win at LSS in dominating fashion.
