    The Buford High School track team notched four titles at the Conference VIII-AA meet in Cheraw.Eric McPhearson, an eighth-grader, led the Jackets, winning the 1600 (5:27) and the 3200 (12:07).Lamont McPhearson won the 800-meter run in 2:23, while the Lady Jackets’ 4 x 100 meter team captured a first.

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins stayed alive in the Class AAAA Upper State softball playoffs, blanking Aiken High School 4-0 in an elimination game Friday.The Lady Bruins’ win advances Lancaster to an elimination game with Wren High School of Greenville on Monday at 6:30 p.m.Wren dropped a 2-1 loss to Gaffney on Friday night.

  • Bruins hold on, survive

    The Lancaster Bruins forged an early 8-0 lead and stayed on top for an 11-6 win over Aiken to remain alive in the Class AAAA Upper State baseball playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Doomsday Corner.LHS senior hurler Nick Ferguson notched the win, going 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs, three hits and two walks. Ferguson fanned four. Ferguson aided his cause with three hits, including a solo home run, and drove in three runs.Michael Catoe worked 1.1 innings and yielded three runs, three hits and a walk.

    Central of Pageland shot a 623 to capture the title in the Conference VIII-AA golf tournament at the Lancster Golf Club on Thursday.Buford, with a 660, placed second behind the Eagles. The Jackets were led by Trevor Banks, who shot a 143 (72-71) for the two-day event at the LGC .Taylor Banks gave the Jackets a solid one-two links punch with a 145 for the two-day tournament. Taylor Banks shot a 77-78.

  • Lady Jackets down WHS

    Buford, the fourth seed out of Conference VIII-AA, knocked off top-seeded Waccamaw 5-1 in the opening round of the Class AA Lower State softball playoffs on Thursday.

    Lady Jackets’ ace Jena Hallman hurled a six-hitter and struck out eight to lead BHS, 13-10, to the four-run win.

    Hallman, who allowed only one walk, aided her cause with three singles and drove home two runs. Madisson Finley and Chandler Baxley each had a double and drove in a run. Baxley also scored a run.

    The USCL Lancer golf team hosted the Division III Region X Championship on April 14-15 at the Lancaster Golf Club.The five-team field played 36 holes, with perennial Division III power Louisburg College winning by 13 strokes over USC-Lancaster.Louisburg’s total was 608, while the the Lancers carded a 621.“We had a good chance to bring home the crown. We were only three shots behind after the first day,” said USCL golf coach Rick Walters. “Drew Walters and Stephen Adeimy played excellent on Monday.

    The Indian Land Lady Warriors captured the Conference III-A softball championship, topping McBee 2-1 in a special play-off at Andrew Jackson High School on Tuesday.Indian Land’s Paige Brugh drove home Kelsey Young with the winning run to lift IL.Kristin Campbell, 7-3, was the winner, allowing three hits and three walks.

    Mason Barber said he enjoys playing in the annual Crenshaw Oil Company Partners for Youth golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club.Barber probably likes the tournament a little more after he was a member of the winning foursome in the 17th tourney on Friday afternoon.“We love this tournament,” said Barber of Prosperity. “It’s a great event for a great cause.
