  • Buford blanks Gray Collegiate to...

    Region IV-AA soccer champion Buford High School, rated fifth in the Class AA state poll, advanced in the Class AA Upper State soccer playoffs, taking a 2-0 win over Gray Collegiate on Tuesday night.

    BHS junior midfielder Blaine Gossman scored a first-half goal for a 1-0 halftime lead.

    In the second half, the Jackets struggled to find the target with their shots, until sophomore Jesse Black scored off a corner kick and the Gossman assist.

  • Brown returns for SECA bonus...

    “Downtown” Michael Brown captured the SECA Crate Late Model bonus race Saturday night at Lancaster Super Speedway.

    Brown and Timbo Mangum were on the front row, and when the green flag dropped, it was Michael Brown, Mangum, Dillon Brown, and Ryan Atkins battling for the lead entering turn one.

    Exiting turn two, Michael Brown led with Mangum all over him.

    Mangum nearly spun out in turn four, causing him to lose position.

  • Jackets eye district crown

    Buford is a win away from the Class AA District VII baseball crown after taking a 5-2 win over Woodland High School of Dorchester on Monday.

    The Jackets faced Woodland in a second game Monday, but the contest was called due to lightning and rain in the top of the fourth inning with Buford on top 3-2.

    BHS returned to Woodland on Tuesday to complete the game in hopes of winning to advance to the Class AA Lower State title round.

  • LHS Bruins advance in AAAA...

    The Lancaster High tennis team opened the Class AAAA playoffs, taking a 4-3 win over Belton Honea-Path High School on Thursday.

    The Bruins’ No. 1 doubles team of Isaac Thomas and Connor Palmeri prevailed 6-1, 6-4 in straight sets sending the Region III-AAAA champion Bruins to the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

    Isaac Thomas (L) defeated Jacob Wurst (BHP), 6-2, 6-3.

  • Lady Warriors post playoff win

    Indian Land rolled in its Class AAA playoff opener, taking a 10-0 win over Mid-Carolina High School on Monday night.

    Summer Bishop scored three goals and added an assist to spark the Lady Warriors’ win.

    Kelsey Long netted two goals. Reagan Hunter scored two goals, while Emily Gerdes and C.C. Thompson each tallied a goal and had an assist. Kailee Erwin added a goal for ILHS.

    Emma Thompson posted the shutout.

  • Buford tops Cheraw to win region...

    The Buford High boys soccer team won the Region IV-AA championship with a 1-0 win over Cheraw at Andrew Jackson High School, a neutral site, on Thursday.

    The match was necessary because Buford and Cheraw, which split in regular-season play, were 3-1 in region play.

    Cheraw entered looking more intense, and putting a great deal of pressure on Buford’s back line and goalkeeper with several open looks, but just couldn’t convert.

  • LHS girls 5th in region meet

    The Lancaster High School girls placed fifth in the Region III-AAAA track meet with 65 points at York, while the LHS boys were sixth with 26 points on Thursday.

    Terricka Thompson and Zayla Stewart each led the Lady Bruins with a second.

    Stewart dashed to a second in the 100 meters, while Thompson was second in the discus.

    The LHS girls 4 x 800 relay was second.

  • County trio seeking district...

    Lancaster, Buford and Andrew Jackson softball teams are seeking district titles today as they play host in hopes of staying unbeaten in postseason play.

    LHS wins

    Lancaster rolled to a 12-0 win over Midland Valley at home to stay unbeaten in the Class AAAA Upper State softball playoffs Friday.

    LHS junior southpaw Summer Clinton hurled the win, tossing a three-hitter and fanning two.

  • Buford soccer closes regular-...

    The Region IV-AA champion Buford High soccer team capped its regular-season with three straight wins.

    BHS defeated rival Andrew Jackson, 4-2 on Jackets senior night April 18.

    The Jackets seniors are Matthew Hunter, Josh Parris, and Austin Gregory.

    BHS center midfielder Jim Small tied the score at 1-1 on an assist from Will Ingram. AJ was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box, and converted for a 2-1 lead.
