  • Jackets edge Bruins in 2-1...

    The Buford High School soccer team avenged a 2-0 loss to Lancaster with a 2-1 win over the Bruins at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.

    BHS’s Bryton Davis opened the scoring with a redirected indirect kick/assist by fellow junior and center back William Ingram.

    The score stayed 1-0 until midway the second half, when Lancaster tied it up on a loose ball in front of the Buford goal. 

    LHS’s Grey Phillips scored on an assist from Isaac Williams.

  • Thornwell rockets to top

    Lancaster native and Gamecocks leader Sindarius Thornwell ascended another rung on the ladder of basketball stardom Tuesday, honored as Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in his senior season at USC.
    “I hollered when I heard the big news,” said Thornwell’s mother, Sharicka, who still lives in Lancaster. “Me and my son Tay were in the car a little after noon on Tuesday when we got the news. Tay said, ‘I knew it!’

    Lancaster Super Speedway will open the 2017 racing season with the annual LSS car show and open practice Saturday.

    The car show has been very popular with the LSS drivers, fans and staff members.

  • Boxing exhibition aids KLS...

    Solid punches were landed in support of the Kleine-Levin Syndrome Foundation of Lancaster on Saturday at the old Barr Street High School gym.

    A boxing exhibition, led by Lancaster boxing champion Cedric “Mean Man” Mingo, featured rounds of sparring and training at the gym handled by Hope on the Hill.

    Mingo, a retired boxer and a member of the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame with a 28-9-1 pro record, took to the ring in the event.

  • Dakota Barton awarded A-AA...

    As if Buford High School 220-pound state champion senior wrestler Dakota Barton’s North-South All-Star Wrestling Classic weekend couldn’t get any better, it did.

    It came actually before he took the mat for two days of all-star competition.

    Barton, at the North-South All-Star Wrestling Classic banquet, was named the Class A-AA Wrestler of the Year.

    BUFORD – The Buford High School Lady Jackets softball team has taken up where it left off last season.

    The BHS girls, the defending Class AA state champions, completed an unbeaten run – 5-0 – Saturday afternoon when the Lady Jackets captured the annual preseason tournament at the Buford High School softball field.

  • Warriors edge Stallions for...

    Indian Land completed a 4-0 run to win the annual Comporium Preseason Invitational baseball tournament, defeating South Pointe, 9-8 in the championship game Saturday night at Andrew Jackson High School.

    ILHS shortstop Daniel Gueldner, an all-tournament selection along with Warriors’ ace pitcher Nolan Bolt, drove in the winning run with a walk.

    Gueldner, on the day, had a hit, RBI, two walks and scored two runs.

  • Spencer’s HBP lifts Jackets by...

    Buford High School batter Spencer Funderburk took one for the team and it resulted in a 3-2 win over rival Lancaster High School at Buford Park on Monday night.

    Funderburk, with the bases loaded and two out, was hit by a pitch to force home Noah Vincent with the winning run in the victory over the Bruins.

    Ryan Moore, Dylan Sistare and Brett Sistare each had two hits to lead the Jackets’ attack. Moore drove in a run.

  • Buford girls win, go to 2-0

    The Buford High School girls soccer team upped its record to 2-0 with a 2-0 win over the Governors School on Friday night.

    Payton Howell scored the winning goal in the 27th minute off a cross from Victoria Hinson.

    Hinson scored the second goal in the second half at the 57th minute.

    Keeper Tory Knight posted her second shutout of the season.

    The Jackets played Andrew Jackson at home Tuesday.

  • Seth’s Giving Tree spring shoot

    The first Seth’s Giving Tree Spring Shoot is April 7 at Rocky Creek Sporting Clays in Richburg.

    Funds raised from the shoot will benefit the Seth Muennich Scholarship Fund through Seth’s Giving Tree.

    Seth Muennich is a former Buford High School football player who died as a result of an auto accident in 2011.
