  • County track trio tops in AA...

    A trio of county athletes posted Class AA Upper State track crowns at the meet at Keenan High School in Columbia.
    Buford had two athletes to capture Upstate crowns, with senior Autumn Rabon winning the high jump with a 5-2 effort.
    Jackets’ 100-meter wheel chair athlete John Elliott, in his first season of competition, topped the Upstate field with a personal-best 31.02 effort.
    Andrew Jackson also had a first with the AJ girls winning the 4 x 400-meter run in 4:11.16.

  • IL Warriors rally to earn AA...

    Indian Land had a fine finish to fuel its state soccer playoff hopes with a 6-3 comeback win over Mid-Carolina High School of Prosperity on Saturday at IL’s Reservation.
    The match, tied 2-2 at the break, saw the Warriors pick up the pace in the second half on the way to the three-goal win.
    The Rebels actually took a 3-2 lead on a Miguel Gonzales goal, but the fast-finishing Warriors rallied for the win.
    Henry Suvillaga tied the match at 3-all to ignite the Warriors’ late charge.

  • LHS seeks to rebound in Upstate...

    The Lancaster High Lady Bruins’ softball team will have to battle back in the Class AAA Upper State softball playoffs.
    Lancaster, in its Class AAA Upstate title series opener, dropped a 6-2 road loss to Chapin High on Monday.
    Lancaster, 20-7, will host Daniel of Clemson in an elimination game today at 6.
    Ariana Ealy, who went three frames, took the loss, allowing four runs, six hits and struck out one. Summer Clinton, in the final three frames, gave up two runs and two hits.

  • Lady Jackets blank Tigers

    The diamond beat goes on for the surging Buford High Lady Jackets’ softball team.
    The 21-4 BHS girls remained the lone unbeaten in the Class AA Upper State tournament, taking a solid 2-0 home win over Crescent of Iva on Monday at the BHS softball field.
    The win, Buford’s fifth straight postseason shutout victory, puts the Lady Jackets in the Upstate title game at BHS on Friday.
    The Buford girls will host the Crescent vs. Chesnee winner on Friday at 5 p.m., needing a win to move on to the Class AA state title series.

  • Speedway features exciting...

    Lancaster Super Speedway featured an exciting night of racing Saturday night.
    The highlight race was the M&M Garage Extreme 4 Double Duels Showdown.
    Mel Privette won feature B and Christopher Barrett took the checkers in the other feature.
    Barrett placed fourth in the Xtreme B feature. Chris Hinson was fifth in both Xtreme 4 races.

  • Warriors in state title match

    Indian Land is on its way to the Class AA boys state title match for the fifth straight season.

    Indian Land, 17-5, posted its fifth straight Class AA Upstate soccer title with a 2-1 win over Powdersville at the Warriors' Reservation on Tuesday night.

    The PHS Patroits struck first with a goal on a penalty kick, but IL responded with a clutch goal from Garrett Gerdes off a Brandon Jacob assist. The Warriors' decisive goal came on Mason Huebsch's goal off a header.

    Indian Land outshot the Patriots, 18-5.

  • Walters signs with NGU Crusaders

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School boys’ basketball sharpshooter Corey Walters has hit a bull’s eye with the North Greenville University men’s basketball program.
    Walters, a three-year starter at AJ and two-time All-Region IV-AA pick and All-Lancaster County hoops selection by The Lancaster News, is taking his game to Tigerville.
    Walters, with family, friends, coaches and teammates watching, made it official Wednesday in the AJ media center where he signed with the NGU Crusaders.

  • Dreher ends LHS boys’ soccer run

    Dreher of Columbia put the brakes on the Lancaster High boys’ Class AAA postseason run, taking a 3-1 win at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.
    Ian Devin scored two goals and Derian McKnight tallied the Blue Devils’ other goal in the DHS road victory.
    Dreher improved to 22-1 with the road win. The Blue Devils hosted Midlands rival A.C. Flora on Saturday.
    Zeke Williams scored the Bruins’ lone goal.

  • Vols card region golf title

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers golf team added another jewel to their Region IV-AA links crown.
    The Vols notched their fourth straight region golf championship, posting a two-day 619 (300-319) to win the Region IV-AA golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club.
    AJ senior Caleb Brown, who has signed to play golf at Spartanburg Methodist College, led the 37-3 Vols with a 148 (75-73) on Thursday.
    “I’m so proud of Caleb,” AJ coach Heath Brewer said. “He played awesome over two days at the tournament.

  • Annual Blackwell tourney has...

    A beautiful spring day greeted 111 golfers April 30 when they competed in the 15th annual Matt Blackwell Foundation Golf Tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club.
    The team of Jerry Pardue, Shane Brewer, AJ golf coach Heath Brewer, and AJ golf standout Logan Sowell topped the 28-team captain’s choice field, carding a low-net score of 48.4.
