  • Wren ends LHS softball drive

    Wren ended the Lancaster Lady Bruins’ Class AAAA postseason softball run, taking a 4-1 win over the LHS girls on Monday at WHS.

    Lady Hurricanes’ Brianna McBride led WHS with a hit, two RBIs and scored a run.

    WHS pitchers Emma and Ashley Collins combined to hold LHS to four hits and struck out six.

    Sydney Cauthen led the Lady Bruins with a hit and a walk. Ashley Abbott had a hit and a sacrifice.

  • Panthers halt Jackets’ playoff...

    Buford’s banner run in the Class AA baseball Lower State championship playoffs ended with a tough 5-4 loss to host Batesburg-Leesville on Monday night.

    The Panthers, up 5-2 going to the top of the seventh, held off the Jackets’ valiant charge to take the narrow win to stay alive in postseason play.

    BLHS rallied from a 2-1 deficit to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-2 edge.

  • Lady Jackets win, advance to...

    Buford won a nail-biter to hold the upper hand in the Class AA softball Upper State championship series.

    The Lady Jackets, with a 7-6 comeback win over Landrum in extra innings, are the lone unbeaten team in the Class AA Upstate softball playoffs.

    BHS, down 6-5, rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to notch the one-run comeback win.

  • Lady Warriors Upstate champs

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Lady Warriors, with their deft feet, wrote some ILHS girls soccer history on Monday at the Reservation.

    The Indian Land girls, in their first season in Class AAA soccer, made it memorable with a 5-0 win over Pendleton to earn a first-ever state title match bid.

  • Pardue Iron Club duo shines in...

    HEATH SPRINGS – A pair of female powerlifters out of the Pardue Iron Club in Heath Springs racked up titles in the Europa Games held April 22 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

    Candice Maness and Priscilla Pardue, in Masters 3 (age 50-54), won their respective weight divisions at the competition.

    Maness, in the 165-pound weight class, won with a total of 677.7 pounds (307.5 kilos).

  • AJ’s Hendrix to play at Erskine

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School ace pitcher Morgan Hendrix is headed to Due West to continue her education and softball career.

    That’s Due West as in Erskine College, a NCAA Division II school and a member of the Conference Carolinas.

  • Gamecock Club’s Spurs Up tour...

    FORT LAWN – The Gamecock Club’s Spurs Up Tour hit a high note Tuesday night during the Lancaster County Gamecocks Club’s annual spring meeting at the Catawba Fish Camp in Fort Lawn.

    A crowd of 470 Gamecock fans, some who lined up 90 minutes prior to the start of the meeting, packed the seafood restaurant to hear USC head football coach Will Muschamp and Gamecocks’ women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley.

  • Jackets booters blank Tigers,...

    The Buford High School boys soccer team posted its second straight home playoff win, taking a 1-0 win over Saluda High School in the second round of the Class AA Upper State playoffs at rain-soaked Jackets Stadium on Thursday night.

    Fourth-seeded BHS, the Region IV-AA champion, scored late in the match to edge the fifth-seeded SHS Tigers.

    Buford opened the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Gray Collegiate Academy of Columbia on Tuesday night.

  • Jackets have to battle

    Buford, en route to the Class AA District VII baseball crown, battled back through the loser’s bracket, and it appears the Jackets will have to do the same in the Class AA Lower State championship series.

    Buford, 12-16-1 on the season, opened the double-elimination Class AA Lower State titles series with a tough 2-1 loss to Latta High School on Thursday night.

  • Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models...

    The Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models return to Lancaster Super Speedway on Saturday night.

    On April 1, the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models made their LSS debut.

    On that night Ben Watkins dominated the race.

    Watkins will not be here on Saturday night as he will be racing with the World of Outlaws Super Late Model Series.

    So this Saturday, LSS will have a new winner in the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models Series.
