    University of South Carolina at Lancaster golfer Drew Walters’ valiant bid for an individual national championship fell a shot shy in sudden death on Friday afternoon at the Chautauqua (N.Y.)     Indian Land High School baseball coach Kevin Durham is bound for home to help coach at his prep alma mater.Durham, who has guided the Warriors’ baseball fortunes the last four seasons, is returning to Pendleton High in Anderson County to help lead the Bulldogs.Pendleton is a Class AA school where Durham will be an assistant coach under his former coach David Skelly.“It’s a chance to go home where I grew up,” Durham said.

    The team of Kirk Crump and Terry Laney captured top honors at the first Buford Lady Jackets’ basketball team fundraiser, a bass fishing tournament at Lake Wateree last Saturday.Crump and Laney teamed to net 14.07 pounds of bass to pocket $600.Former Buford High School principal Rick Porter, a veteran basser, and teammate Joe Hunter placed second with 12.21 pounds of bass. Second-place was a $400 prize.Hunter and Porter earned big fish honors with a 3.82 bass. The big fish, a $200 prize, was sponsored by Founders Federal Credit Union.
