  • Lady Jackets fall to Landrum...

    Landrum opened the Class A Upper State softball championship series with a 3-0 home win over Buford on Saturday.

    The Lady Cardinals cruised to the shutout, allowing only four hits.

    The Lady Jackets were led by Jena Hallman, Jordan Boone, Hannah Knight and Kayla Lloyd, who had one hit each.

    Landrum advances in the winner’s bracket to face the Indian Land-McBee winner on Monday.

    Buford, 20-9, will seek to stay alive as the Lady Jackets meet the loser of the opening round game between Indian Land and McBee on Monday.

  • Buford wins, stays alive

    Buford was down, but not out in the Class A Upper State baseball championship series Monday night in an elimination game with Landrum High School at Buford Park.

    Landrum, up 7-2 and six outs away from advancing, saw Buford charge in its final two at-bats to pull out a thrilling 8-7 win and advance in the Class A Upper State title tournament. The win sends BHS, 13-11, to face Lewisville in a 6 p.m. elimination game today.

     The winner faces Chesterfield on Friday, needing two wins to take the Class A Upper State championship and a bid to the state title game.

  • Lady Bruins earn berth to Class...

    The Lady Bruins are in and set to compete in the Class AAAA girls Upper State soccer playoffs.

    A week ago, the LHS girls felt they had just missed out to Rock Hill High School for the final bid to the postseason tournament.

    A recheck of the tie-breaker rules had the LHS girls getting the bid over the Lady Bearcats.

    Lancaster and Rock Hill split during the regular-season, but the Lady Bruins played more matches and totaled more points with the Class AAAA playoff tie-breaker.

  • Lady Warriors in driver's...

    Indian Land is in the driver’s seat for the Class A Upper State softball title, while Buford hits the road today in hopes of staying alive in its quest for the Upstate crown.

    The Lady Warriors blanked Landrum 2-0 on Monday to stay unbeaten in the Class A Upstate title series.

  • LHS, AJ girls fall in soccer...

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins’ soccer team fell in its playoff opener Monday at Fort Mill, dropping a 5-0 loss to the Region III-AAAA champion Lady Yellow Jackets.

    FM was on the offensive early as Kaitlyn Marr scored seven minutes into the match.

    Fort Mill continued its scoring with two goals a minute apart. FM’s Ashton Wolfe headed in the Jackets’ second goal and a minute later, Abbie McDonald broke through the LHS defense to tally.

  • Lancers' first baseball...

    Florence-Darlington Technical College halted the University of South Carolina at Lancaster baseball team’s postseason hopes with a 7-3 win in a Region X elimination game Thursday at Sims Park in Gastonia, N.C.

    Lancaster dropped its tournament opener, falling 8-7 to top-seeded USC-Sumter.

    In the four-run loss to the Stingers, Aaron Story worked 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs – six earned, six hits and two walks.

    Christian Dickson pitched 3.1 innings and allowed two hits, two walks and no runs. He struck out one.

  • Rams charge, down BHS

    The Chesterfield Rams made a hard charge to capture the opening game in the Class A Upper State championship series at Buford Park on Saturday afternoon.

    The Rams spotted the Jackets an early 1-0, but CHS, which belted four home runs, used its power surge to rally for an 11-1 win over the Jackets.

    Buford, 10-9, snapped a scoreless draw in the second inning when BHS senior Gavin Flynn singled home Dillon Hydrick for a 1-0 lead.

  • Jackets sweep to district...

    The Buford High baseball team, in a do-or-die situation, delivered in a major way.

    The Jackets, needing two wins over host Williston-Elko to capture the District IV baseball title and stay in the hunt for the Class A Upper State championship, responded with a sweep of the Blue Devils – 4-3 and 18-6 in five innings.

  • Trevor Banks Class A state...

    Buford High School senior golfer Trevor Banks captured the Class A state medalist championship with a two-day total of 145. Banks carded a 77 in the opening round Monday and followed with a 68 on Tuesday in Johnsonville at the Wellman Country Club.

    Trevor Banks' title was his second straight after taking the Class AA medalist honor as a junior at BHS. He was also the medalist at the recent Conference III-A golf tournament in Lancaster, leading BHS to the league crown. Banks' brother, Taylor, carded a 76-77 to reap Class A all-state golf honors.

  • Trio seeks to stay alive

    A trio of county  prep softball teams are bidding to stay alive in the state playoffs.

    Andrew Jackson, Buford and Lancaster each has a loss in the playoffs.

    Lancaster and AJ faced elimination games Tuesday, while Buford travels to Dixie High of Due West today seeking two wins over the Lady Hornets to take the district title.

    Lancaster stayed alive in the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs on Monday night, taking a 7-4 win over Westside High of Anderson.
