    KERSHAW – The Lancaster Bruins notched a hardwood sweep of county rival Andrew Jackson, but it was a tough task.
    In a pair of tight finishes, the Bruins held on for two hard-fought wins over the Volunteers.
    The LHS Bruins capped the sweep with a 57-53 win, and the Lady Bruins downed the Lady Vols, 59-55.
    In the boys’ game, Lancaster, which came on strong in the second half, trailed 38-31 at the break, and used a key 13-4 third-period charge to take a 44-42 lead with a quarter to play.

    Buford’s late flurry wasn’t enough as the Jackets dropped a 41-39 loss to Class AAA Hartsville at the BHS gym on Thursday, Dec. 6.
    BHS closed the match with three straight wins, but it wasn’t enough to earn the comeback victory over the Red Foxes.
    “It was an even match and they just had a few more points than we did,” Buford High coach John Mahaffey said. “I was proud of our effort and our senior leadership has been outstanding from the start.”

    Buford swept a non-region twin bill from visiting McBee on Friday, Dec. 7.
    The Jackets posted a 53-39 win after the Lady Jackets edged the Lady Panthers, 44-43.
    In the boys game, Buford, 2-3, built an early lead and stayed in control for the 14-point win over the Panthers.
    The Jackets opened up a 13-10 lead after one period and used a 17-11 spurt in the second quarter to forge a 30-21 halftime spread.
    BHS built a 41-29 lead after three before taking the victory.

    In the win over the Knights, the Jackets bolted to a 30-6 lead and held on for the eight-point win.
