    Nope, that’s already over as in leftovers, such as endless turkey sandwiches to go with turkey hash and turkey soup.

    How about rivalry week? Well, try again.

    The winner gets the fabled trip to the luxurious Taxahaw Inn complete with a classy victor’s meal of sardines, stand-up weenies, crackers and a case of R.C. Colas.

  • Bruins, Volunteers post tourney...


    The Lancaster Bruins rallied in the second half to take a 61-49 win over Chapin to open play in the Lake Murray Tip-off Classic at Lexington High School on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

    LHS senior guard Duece Dunlap paced the Bruins with 31 points, including six treys, in the Bruins’ victory over the Eagles.

    Buford didn’t bring home any coveted medals for the Class AA state competition, but Jackets cheer coach Julie Thompson was still proud of her team.

    The Jackets cheer team placed eighth in the 16-team field at the Colonial Life Arena on the University of South Carolina campus on Saturday, Nov. 23.

  • Big Thursday triumph

    Talk about streaks in the Palmetto State rivalry.
    The team of University of South Carolina Gamecocks and USC Lancaster Lancers golfers have a solid run going in the 12th annual Big Thursday Scholarship golf tournament.
    The Lancers and Gamecocks teamed for a solid 15.5-7.5 win over the Clemson University golfers Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Lancaster Golf Club.
    The golf tournament is part of the Big Thursday Scholarship Inc.’s annual dinner fundraiser at the golf club’s Fairway Room.

  • AJ’s Rowell to play at Montreat

    KERSHAW – When Andrew Jackson High School softball standout Lauren Rowell recently visited Montreat College in Montreat, N.C., she had a strong inkling she would be returning.
    “I had a great visit there,” Rowell said. “I love the campus and I had a chance to practice with the softball team. When I did, they welcomed me and it seemed they wanted me to be a part of their team.”

  • Pee Wee all-star soccer...

    The annual Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Pee Wee all-star soccer tournament will be held Dec. 2-3 and Dec. 5.
    The best-of-three tournament opens at the Buford Recreation Center field on Dec. 2. The Dec. 3 match will be played at the Melvin Steele Soccer Complex in Lancaster.
    If a third match is needed, the site will be determined.
    The North 8U Pee Wee all-star soccer team is led by coach Faye Zaugg-Garcia.

    Buford turkey shoots each week
    The annual Buford turkey shoot will be held at 6 p.m. each Friday through Dec. 28 at the Buford Little General Store on Rocky River Road. The next shoot is Nov. 29.
    Shoots are also held every other Saturday, with the next shoot Nov. 30.
    The fee is $3 per shot. For details, call Monty Craig at (803) 320-9712.

    CHARLOTTE – If a Miami fan buoyed by the Dolphins’ 3-0 start had tried to map out how the rest of the season might play out, they might have worried about Miami looking past this week’s game against the Panthers toward next week’s division matchup with the New York Jets.
    Now that the game has arrived, Panthers fans are the ones that might be worried about a letdown.

    This hunting season the S.C. Department of Natural Resources is joining  the National Shooting Sports Foundation to remind hunters that safety remains at the core of America’s hunting traditions.
    “This is a time of year when a lot of firearms are in use and in transport,” said Lt. Billy Downer with Department of Natural Resources’ hunter/boater education program.
