  • Bruins blitz Blazers 86-70

    Lancaster vaulted two spots in the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association state poll, then garnered a little more statewide recognition with an impressive 86-70 win over Ridge View.

    The Blazers, the preseason pick to win the Region IV-AAAA crown, were blitzed by the Bruins on Tuesday night at LHS.

    LHS, 14-3, 3-0, held a 47-21 lead at the break and cruised to the 16-point win.

    The Bruins held a 20-point or more lead for the majority of the game before RV sliced it in the end when the outcome was not in doubt.

  • Rucker, South notch sweeps in...

    A.R. Rucker swept a middle school hoops twin bill from North Central on Thursday.

    The Rucker girls notched a 21-17 behind the play of Tilandra Staton who scored 13 points in the four-point win. Ayanah Massey netted four. Tra’shiana Stevenson and Amy Williams added two points each.

    Stephanie Robinson grabbed 10 rebounds in the Lady Rams win.

    In the boys’ game, Rucker prevailed 36-23 for the sweep.

    Duece Dunlap paced the Rams with nine and E.J. Patterson scored eight. Q Johnson followed with six in Rucker’s balanced attack.

  • Bruins claw 'Cats twice

    The Lancaster Bruins offered no buzzer-beaters Friday night, but still plenty to buzz about in the Bruins’ Den.

    The No. 10 Bruins, who have had their share of dramatic wins this season, including a two-point thriller in a region-opening 56-54 road win over South Pointe on Monday, were firmly in control.

    Lancaster capped a Region IV-AAAA home sweep, taking two from visiting Rock Hill.

  • Warriors roll in sweep of Knights

    Indian Land bounced back and the Lady Warriors continued their stellar play in a Conference III-A sweep on Friday in the IL gym.

    The Warriors, who fell to Great Falls on Tuesday, rebounded with a solid 66-46 win over North Central to complete the league sweep.

    The IL girls opened play, ripping the Knights 79-21.

    The Warriors, who improved to 3-1 in region play, took charge in the second half behind the third-period play of Jay Edge.

  • Junior Jackets' balance...

    The Buford Junior Jackets opened region home play in impressive style, taking a 53-36 win over the Chesterfield Junior Rams on Monday night.

    The BHS jayvees, in posting the 17-point win, used a balanced attack.

    Josh Roach paced Buford with 12 points. Matt Ellis and Jonathan Soliman each scored nine points. Nick Parris hit eight.

    Mikeem McKinney, Nate Saxon and Jay Chambers each tallied four points. Donovan Lang scored two and Evan Joplin added one point.

  • Jackets surge to top LHS Bruins

    Buford capped a season’s wrestling sweep of county rival Lancaster to highlight a Jackets’ home tri-match on Thursday night.

    Lancaster, 1-8, held a 17-12 lead after a Ben Ghent pin, Chris Stevenson forfeit win and Jeff Strickland technical fall, but the Jackets used a 42-6 run to notch the 54-23 win.

    BHS downed Lancaster 51-30 last month.

    Buford’s key charge was boosted by pins from Dylan Altman, Devin Starnes, Rashad Cunningham and Eric McPhearson. Gabe Griffin and James Mackey each had a decision to aid the Jackets’ charge.

  • Jackets halt skid at CHS

    Buford, mired in a five-game losing skid, was in dire need of a win.

    The Jackets responded in splendid fashion, posting a 58-49 Conference III-A basketball victory over Chesterfield at the Rams’ gym on Tuesday night.

    BHS’s nine-point win gave the visitors a split after the Lady Jackets dropped a 52-19 loss to the Lady Rams.

    In the nightcap, Buford rallied in the second half to post its first league win this season.

  • IL's Jones second in Rock...

    Four Indian Land High School wrestlers placed in the annual Bearcats Invitational at Rock Hill High School on Saturday.

    The two-day tournament drew 29 schools.

    IL’s Trevor Jones led the Warriors’ effort, which resulted in an 11th-place finish, with a second at 140.

    Jones lost to Stewart Snodgrass of Nation Ford in the finals on a decision.

    Jones went 5-1 on the day for the Warriors, who are now 9-6.

  • Lady Warriors surge to win over...

    INDIAN LAND The No. 8 Indian Land Lady Warriors, locked in a tough region home battle with Great Falls, took control in a pivotal third period on the way to a 69-43 win over the Lady Red Devils on Tuesday night.

    The IL girls, unbeaten in region play, held a 24-22 halftime edge on the Great Falls girls, but ignited on a crucial 27-7 run to take control of the game.

    Indian Land owned a 17-8 first quarter edge, but Great Falls rallied with a 14-7 run to slice the gap to a couple of points.

  • Jackets' fast start fuels...

    Buford built a 52-0 lead on the way to a 58-24 home wrestling win over Camden Military Academy on Tuesday night in the Jackets’ gym.

    BHS’s 34-point win upped the Jackets’ mark to 9-12 this winter.

    Buford posted six pins in forging the early lead. Josh Langley, Marcus Pressley, Josh Mullins, Gabe Griffin, James Shehane and Eric McPhearson each had a fall to boost Buford to an insurmountable spread on the Spartans.

    Devin Starnes registered a major decision and Johntrell Caudle added a pin in the 217-pound weight class.
