    ROCK HILL – Lancaster High's gut-check drive gave the Bruins plenty of reasons to hold their heads high with a major Class AAAA football victory Thursday night.

    The USCL Lady Lancers blanked USC-Salkehatchie, 2-0 to improve their record to 8-4 on Wednesday.

    The wet field didn’t distract the Lady Lancers from getting dirty. The Lancers dominated the field over the Lady Indians. USCL created many scoring opportunities, especially on corner kicks.

    Lancaster High School football coach Bennie McMurray rolled the dice and came up a Shaq Williams’ game-winning two-point conversion plunge in a 29-28 Region III-AAAA overtime win over Rock Hill on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

    Williams, with LHS down 28-21 in the OT, hit senior running back Brandon Reese on a clutch third down, 13-yard touchdown pass to pull the Bruins close, 28-27.

    KERSHAW – Buford rallied to defeat county rival Andrew Jackson, 30-24 in overtime on AJ homecoming at Volunteer Stadium on Friday night.

    The Yellow Jackets overcame a 24-13 deficit in the fourth quarter to force the overtime.

    “Our guys gave super effort tonight,” Buford coach Mike Wells said. “We put ourselves in a hole with too many mistakes in the first half.

  • Braves halt Warriors’ streak

    CHERAW – The Cheraw Braves halted Indian Land’s unbeaten streak with a 28-20 win over IL on Friday night.

    Cheraw built an early lead and kept the upper hand to notch the eight-point victory over the sixth-ranked Warriors.

    Marvin Lauderdale’s 15-yard touchdown run, his second on the night, gave the Braves a 28-14 lead with 3:12 left in the third period. James Davis added the conversion for a 14-point CHS edge.

    Lauderdale, in a strong night, ran for 131 yards 18 carries.

    The Lancaster High School golf team capped regular-season play with a 9-3 record after defeating Region III-AAAA foe Northwestern High School at Watorford Park Golf Club in Rock Hill.

    LHS carded a 169 to Northwestern’s 229.

    The LHS girls were led by Alexandria McCain and Emily Cox, who each posted a 40. Carly Funderburk notched a 44 and Ina Roberts had a 45.

    Rachel Hovis had a 48 and Carley Snyder posted a 53.

  • LHS Bruins to host region golf...

    First-year coach Scott Roberts has led the Lancaster High School girls golf team to an 8-3 mark in its fourth year of play.

    The 2011 LHS girls team will host the Region III-AAAA tournament Monday at the Lancaster Golf Club.
