    Down to its final strike, Lancaster Post 31 struck for two runs to earn a 9-8 win over Greenwood Post 20 to capture a berth in the upcoming American Legion baseball state tournament in Greenwood. Lancaster’s comeback win gave P-31 the second-round series win, 3-2.  
    P-31, 21-8, trailed 8-6 going to the ninth inning at Greenwood’s John Nave Stadium.

    Age division titles and all-star berths will be decided at the annual Roy Small Junior Championship golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at White Plains Golf Club in Pageland.
    Winners will earn double points and the chance to represent the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association all-stars in the state tournament next month.
    The Lancaster chapter capped its regular-season Monday, July 16 when it played at the Kershaw Golf Club.

    Greenwood built an early lead and held on for a 6-3 win over Lancaster to take a 2-1 series edge in the best-of-five American Legion baseball Upper State second-round playoffs Friday night.
    Post 20, which had a 10-game win streak snapped in a 10-7 game two loss to Lancaster on Thursday night, rebounded for the three-run win.
    Game four was played in Lancaster on Saturday night when the game was completed after The News’ deadline for the Sunday paper.

    Greenwood Post 20 took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five American Legion baseball second-round series with a 3-0 win over Lancaster on Tuesday night at John Nave Field.

    Greenwood, 18-4, scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a single run in the seventh for all the runs it needed.
