  • Buford downs IL in rematch

    It was Indian Land versus Buford round two, and after week one’s loss to the Warriors, Buford High head coach Tripp Watts had a strong idea the next game between the two old Lancaster County rivals would be different.
    It took the determined Yellow Jackets recovering an onside kick and a clutch Wade Lambert 32-yard field goal with 10.6 seconds left to ultimately prove him right, and give late-charging Buford a 23-21 comeback Region IV-AA win.

  • Jackets foil LHS rally

    UNION – In a game packed with plenty of offense, a defensive play sealed the verdict.
    Lancaster, battling to the end after trailing host Union County 24-7 at the half, was finally blunted when the Yellow Jackets delivered a late stop to seal a 31-24 Region III-AAA win at Union County Stadium on Friday, Oct. 24.
    “Our players fought hard and played hard,” Lancaster coach Bobby Collins said. “We battled back and made it a game to the end.”
    The Yellow Jackets, with a strong start, forged a 24-7 halftime lead, but the game Bruins wouldn’t wilt on the cold night.

  • Chesterfield Rams spoil AJ...

    KERSHAW – Chesterfield quarterback Danzel Rivers threw four touchdowns and rushed for another as the Rams claimed a 43-19 Region IV-AA football win over Andrew Jackson on the Volunteers’ annual homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 24.
    Chesterfield bolted to a 31-7 third-quarter lead when Andrew Jackson found lightning in a bottle. The Vols scored a pair of touchdowns in a span of 35 seconds to cut the Rams lead to 31-19.
    Heath Gandy, the AJ Iron Man, returned a Rivers’ punt 30 yards for a touchdown. McKenzie Denkins added the extra point to slice the CHS lead to 31-14.

  • Lady Bruins win, advance in...

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins will be at home Tuesday, Oct. 28 to face Richland Northeast in the second round of the Class AAA Upper State volleyball playoffs.
    LHS, the Region III-AAA champion, earned a second-round home match with a 3-2 win over Chapman on Thursday, Oct. 23 in the LHS gym.
    The Lady Bruins’ region title is their first in 25 seasons.
    RNE advanced with a home win over West Oak onThursday, Oct. 23.
    Chapman, 11-10, took a 25-19 win to open the match, but Lancaster responded with a 25-18 win before CHS notched a 26-24 win.

  • Bailey wins annual Bruins 5K

    Buford High School assistant football coach and track coach Jareth Bailey ran a 19:46 to win the annual Run with the Bruins 5K road race at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18.
    Bailey’s effort topped a 152-runner field by some 26 seconds over his nearest challenger.
    “It is a good course, but it was not a good race for me,” Bailey said. “I ran my worst time since the beginning of last summer. I just could not run at my normal race pace for some reason. I did not start fast enough and I had to surge at the end to win.”

    BUFORD – The ride on the 2014 Buford High School football season is quickly winding to a close, and the Jackets’ James boys are glad they saddled up.

    They were hoping for a better record in their senior season, but the James twins – guard Garrett and end Kyle – have no regrets.

  • Lady Jackets sweep in playoff...

     

    Buford High School launched the Class AA Upper State volleyball playoffs with a solid 3-0 win over Columbia High School at the BHS gym on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

    The Lady Jackets, 15-4 and the Region IV-AA runner-up to North Central, prevailed over the Lady Capitols, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-21. CHS was the third seed from its region.
