  • Vols hold on, top Buford

    KERSHAW – Host Andrew Jackson stayed unbeaten in Region IV-AA boys soccer, taking a tough 2-1 win over the Buford Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night.

    The Vols built a 1-0 lead at the half.

    AJ struck first as Rhett Bowers shot the ball and his well-placed kick landed in the lower right side of the net for a 1-0 Vols lead.

    Bowers was assisted by Jared Truesdale on the goal, which came late in the first half.

    In the second half, the match was even with the Vols holding their 1-0 lead.

  • Martial Arts Championships...

    The 44th annual Universal Martial Arts Championships were held at Springdale Recreation Center, featuring an action-packed event.

    This event is the most anticipated event of the year, not only nationwide but internationally.

    Fans could feel the ground shaking as competitors stormed in for this world class event. Competitors  awarded first place also become known as national and world champions.

  • Martin: Thornwell is still vital...

    FORT LAWN – Former Lancaster High School basketball star Sindarius Thornwell is a year removed from his college days at the University of South Carolina, but Gamecock hoops coach Frank Martin still holds him close to his program.

    Thornwell, the SEC Player of the Year in 2016-17 when the Gamecocks made their first-ever Final Four run, just completed his rookie season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

  • Lady Bruins defeat Vols

    KERSHAW – The Lancaster Lady Bruins avenged an 8-7 loss to county rival Andrew Jackson, taking a 6-2 win over the Lady Volunteers on Tuesday night.

    LHS senior hurler Summer Clinton pitched a complete game and aided her cause with two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs in the four-run LHS win.

    Ashley Abbott led the Lancaster offense with three hits.

    Gracie Revels, Alexus Lowery and Ana Watts each had two hits.

    Madison Morris had a hit and drove in three runs.

  • Jackets top AJ golfers

    Buford High School shot a 171 to defeat rival Andrew Jackson High School in golf at the Lancaster Golf Club on Tuesday.

    The Jackets’ “T” Sutton shot a two-under 34, followed by Caleb Henson with a 39 and Chandler King had a 47. Michael McCowan followed with a 51 for Buford.

    Mason Sowell led AJ, which had a 195, with a 37 and Luke Benfield carded a 47.

    Parker Deese had a 55 and Tad McCowan carded a 56.

    Other scores for AJ were Jordan Collins with a 57, followed Raegen Brewer with a 59.

  • USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour Winged...

    The USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour, presented by K&N Filters Winged Sprint Car Series, headlines racing action at Lancaster Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

    This will be one of the biggest races on the 2018 LMS schedule as the USCS Sprint Cars only come twice a year to the half-mile dirt oval.

    The Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars are popular when they come to LMS because of the speeds they reach around the track.

    The Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars will be reaching speeds over 140 mph roaring around LMS, which makes them one of the fan favorites each season.

  • Weeks captures Blue Ridge Outlaw...

    Fans and drivers packed the race track at Lancaster Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

    Everyone was still buzzing about the racing from the first race.

    With all the buzzing still going on, everyone was excited to be back at the big half-mile dirt oval.

    The Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models Series highlighted the night of racing action.

    The Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models qualified to set up a dash for the top six drivers.

  • Rams down AJ golfers

    The Andrew Jackson High School golf team fell to Chesterfield, dropping a 172-187 loss to the Rams on March 27.

    The Vols were led by Mason Sowell who shot a 40. Luke Benfield had a 45 and Parker Deese carded a 50. Tad McCowan shot a 52.

    Jordan Collins finished with a 57. Brian Greene and Raegen Brewer each had a 59.Ameila Rhyne shot a 60.

    AJ dropped a three-way match, falling to North Central and Lugoff-Elgin.

    LE shot a 207, followed by NCHS with a 210 and AJ posted a 214.

    Mason Sowell led AJ with a 43. Luke Benfield had a 51.

  • Lady Vols beat Rams

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers softball team edged Chesterfield, 2-1 in Region IV-AA softball play on Friday.

    Rebecca Price hurled the win for the AJ girls.

    AJ took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning and added a single run in the fourth frame and held on for the win.

    Savannah Small led the Lady Vols with two hits.

    Kinley Killough, Maddie Baker, Morgan Eason and Price each had a hit for the Lady Vols.

    AJ hosted Lancaster in a non-region softball game on Tuesday night.

  • Swim team sets registration dates

    Swim team registration for the Lancaster Piranhas summer swim team is April 16-May 5 at the Springdale Recreation Center.

    A registration and parent information meeting is April 17 in Kershaw.

    The Lancaster County swim team and Kershaw will have a combined team this season and compete in the Metrolina swim league.

    The team is open to boys and girls, ages 5-18 as of June 1, 2018.

    Cost is $63 per child, which includes a swim cap and T-shirt.
