    The 2010 Moriah youth basketball season is slated to begin play Nov. 22.

    “We are gearing up for another exciting year of basketball,” said Sammy Macy, who coordinates the league. “We are looking forward to a lot of fun and fellowship.”

  • Rucker caps 6-2 season with win

    The A.R. Rucker Rams capped their middle school football season with an 8-6 win over Fairfield Middle School last Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.

    The Buford Maroon went 3-0 to capture the first girls youth volleyball title in the league sponsored by the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission this season.

  • Caps hold off Warriors

    INDIAN LAND – For the Indian Land Warriors, it was a case of so close, yet so far away in a 28-21 Class AA Upper State first-round loss to Columbia High School.
    The Warriors, down 28-21, were four yards away from possibly tyeing the game and forcing a pivotal overtime period, but it as good as the situation appeared, it never came.

  • Clover clubs Bruins in 31-6...

    CLOVER – The final night of the 2010 Lancaster High School football season was much like the final month of the season.
    “Total disappointment,” said a dejected Bruins’ head football coach Bennie McMurray after seeing the Bruins fall to Clover 31-6 at Clover Memorial Stadium.
    The finale was much like the previous three weeks – setbacks with a familiar feel – little offensive punch and too much time on the field for the defense.

  • Tri-County Coaches honor trio of...

    Three Lancaster County prep football standouts were honored by the Tri-County Football Coaches Association earlier this week.
    Lancaster High School’s Daniel Foster was saluted along with Indian Land’s Marc Morris and Chad Thomas.
    Foster, a senior defensive lineman, was selected as the Division I Defensive Lineman of the Week in the Bruins’ 21-7 road loss to Spartanburg High School. Foster notched 16 tackles, two sacks and recovered a fumble against the Vikings.

  • Rec county volleyball league...

    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation girls youth volleyball league plays at Andrew Jackson, Buford and Springdale Recreation centers.
    The league has eight teams and is coached by volunteers. The league uses high school volleyball rules with rally scoring of games to 25 and, if a third game is needed, it’s played to 15.
    Lancaster Teal vs. Buford Blue, 25-23,  19-25, 7-15. Outstanding players: Sarah Ghent, Brynn Plyler.
    Buford Gold vs. AJ Purple, 25-7, 25-19. Outstanding players: Betty Ingram, Caroline Dixon.
