    The Buford Yellow Jackets captured third place in the Cheraw Braves Diamond Challenge with a third win over county rival Andrew Jackson on Tuesday afternoon in Cheraw.

    The Jackets, 14-3, rallied from a 1-0 deficit to take the 2-1 win behind the pitching of BHS senior Ricky Lewis.

    The Lightning captured the crown with a 42-39 win over the SC 76ers in Hilton Head on April 10.

    Saturday action at Lancaster Motor Speedway promises a packed field of cars for dirt track racing at the half-mile oval.

    Some new drivers are expected with an area track not scheduled to run this weekend.

    Young fans will be treated to a visit from the Easter Bunny.

  • Bruins Challenge Champs

    The Lancaster Bruins met the challenge, taking the championship in the Braves Diamond Challenge on Tuesday afternoon at Cheraw High School.

    Lancaster, 2-0 in pool play with wins over Buford and tourney host Cheraw, defeated Wilson Hall of Sumter, 5-1 to capture the crown and even its overall mark at 10-10 on the season.

    The University of South Carolina at Lancaster Lancers fell to Pitt Community College in a pair of weekend doubleheaders.

    The Lancers, on Sunday, fell 6-2 and 5-2.

    The USCL Lancers softball team will be at home Friday and Saturday for a pair of games with USC-Salkehatchie.

    The twin bill Friday begins at 3 p.m., with game two at 5. On Saturday, the doubleheader begins at noon and the second game is at 2 p.m.
