  • P-31 splits in League V play

    The Lancaster American Legion Post 31 senior team split in a pair of recent League V games.The P-31 seniors defeated Fort Mill at Fort Mill Post 43 on Friday, but dropped an 8-6 home loss to Chester on Monday night in League V play.In the loss to Chester, Ross Maiden took the mound defeat. He worked two innings and allowed five runs, five hits and two walks.Maiden fanned one.

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball National League 7-year-old all-stars completed a sweep of the American League all-stars, taking a 22-9 win in five innings Monday night at Wylie Park field five.The Nationals opened the best-of-three series, taking a 13-3 victory on Saturday.The Nationals used a 10-run third inning to take control of the game.Griffin Gardner and John Michael Faile each had four singles to lead the NL stars’ win. Gardner scored three runs and Faile tallied a run.Gillis Robinson had three singles and scored twice.

  • Juniors' rally tops Post 34

    Lancaster Post 31 juniors’ Adam Eubanks capped an exciting win, doubling home Trey Cauthen to lift P-31 to an 8-7 win over Rock Hill Post34 at Eggleton Field on Friday night.Cauthen reached on an error to open the bottom of the ninth with the game tied at 7-all.Eubanks then capped the extra-inning win with his clutch double to center field.Junior American Legion baseball teams play regulation seven innings.Cauthen, on the night, had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run.Zack Rollings, who worked 2.2 innings in relief, was th

    The Lancaster County swim team Sharks opened their season in impressive fashion, taking a 360-33 win over Kershaw on Tuesday at home.Gracie Scott, Jory Pettit, Cody Brown and Emily Durant each had three wins to lead the Sharks in the meet which was shortened due to lightning and thunder.Coulter Jackson, Anna Scott, Jonah Faile, Elizabeth Catoe, Noah Phillips, Catherine Abbott, Pagan Glenn, Sarah DeVenny, Ashley Abbott and Logan Phillips each had two firsts.Luke Faulkenberry led Kershaw with three first and Luke Sowell had two wins.The LST hos

  • Dixie Baseball honors elite

    Lancaster Dixie Baseball honored top players, teams and coaches at the annual LDB awards night on Tuesday at Wylie Park’s field five.The Matt Blackwell Sportsmanship Award, given in memory of the late Matt Blackwell who played Dixie Baseball, was presented to Devin Rodgers of KSK Construction of the Dixie Boys league, ages 13-14.The award was presented by Toby Taylor, a member of the Matt Blackwell Foundation Board.In the Dixie Boys awards, Bobby Delly of Mobley Drug earned the MVP Award.

    Stellar golf on a scorching day highlighted the 2008 opener of the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association on Monday at the Lancaster Golf Club.A total of 107 golfers competed on the course where play began at 8 a.m. and closed around 3 p.m.“It was a good day for us,” said LJGA director Raymon Chisom.
