  • Warriors fall stars shine

    INDIAN LAND Athletes who often rose to the occasion in the fall at Indian Land High School earned the spotlight Thursday night at the Warriors’ annual fall sports awards night.

    Athletes in five sports were honored for their banner play over the past season.

    In football, senior defensive lineman Dimitri Anthony and receiver Jarrell Robinson garnered awards.

    Anthony, an all-region pick, was named the Best Defensive Lineman. Robinson, also an all-region pick, was named the Best Receiver.

    The Conference III-A champion cross country teams were saluted.

  • Four prep events postponed

    Four high school sports events were postponed on Friday.

    Lancaster County school and athletic officials, with an eye of the forecast for winter weather, canceled three basketball games and a wrestling match slated for Friday night.

    The basketball contests included Andrew Jackson hosting Buford, Lancaster at York and Indian Land at Fort Mill.

    Fort Mill school officials dismissed classes early Friday for fear of hazardous road conditions in the area later that day.

  • IL edges Buford in mat battle

    Indian Land, on the strength of a tiebreaker, edged Region III-A and county rival Buford to highlight a region quad match on Tuesday night at Indian Land.

    Indian Land downed Buford 34-33.

    The match, part of a four-way meet with Region III-A wrestling schools, ended in a 33-all draw, but the Warriors prevailed since it won more matches, seven.

    Indian Land was 2-1 in the three matches, while BHS was 1-2. IL and Buford each downed North Central, but fell to Chesterfield.

  • Matt Blackwell Holiday Hoops...

    The eighth annual Matt Blackwell Foundation Holiday Hoops Classic, featuring 20 teams, will crown youth basketball champions in four different age divisions this weekend.

    The tournament involves teams who participate in the Moriah Baptist Association League, from first graders to high school seniors.

    Play opened Tuesday night at various church sites and continued Thursday.

    The action continues tonight at the North Elementary School gym and the Lancaster High School gym.

  • Buford jayvees jolt Junior Vols

    The Buford High junior varsity team built a 23-13 halftime lead and stayed in control to post a 47-33 basketball  win over the Andrew Jackson Junior Vols on Thursday.

    Josh Roach, who hit 24 points, tallied 16 in the first half to pace the Junior Jackets. Roach, in his second double-double of the season, also grabbed 11 rebounds in the Junior Jackets’ 14-point win.

    “We played a complete game,” Buford coach Neil Couch said. “I was real proud of our effort in the win.”

  • Bruins honor fall stars

    Lancaster High School’s best in fall sports play earned their share of honors at the school’s annual fall sports awards Monday night in the LHS auditorium.

    Athletes in six sports reaped their share of honors for top play in the past season.

    The 7-5 football team, which earned a second straight Class AAAA Upper State playoff bid, honored a host of ace performers.

    Senior standouts Darius Robinson and Zed Truesdale reaped their share of awards.

  • LHS Bruins roll in hoops sweep...

    The Lancaster Bruins used third-period runs to cruise to basketball wins over county rival Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday night in the LHS gym. The Lady Bruins opened the sweep with a 69-33 win and the LHS boys followed with a 67-30 victory over the Vols. In the boys game, Lancaster owned a 29-15 halftime spread and ignited on an 21-5 spurt to take a 50-20 lead with a period to play.   • Vols, Warriors swap hoops wins

    INDIAN LAND – Andrew Jackson and Indian Land swapped wins in high school basketball action Tuesday night at Indian Land.

    The Volunteers, 4-2, dodged the Warriors’ sweep with a 48-44 win over the IL boys in the nightcap.

    The Vols used a strong start to boost their hopes in the four-point win.

    The AJ boys forged a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, a period which they were bolstered by a key 11-0 run.

    “AJ’s 11-0 took us out of our game,” Indian Land coach Nate Smith said.
