  • Blackwood claims young guns...

    An exciting night of racing opened with the young guns main event Saturday night at Lancaster Motor Speedway.An early caution came out when leader Austin Baker and Brandon Blackmon, who was second, were racing hard for the lead and made contact with each other in turn two. Baker pitted and Blackmon was carried off on the wrecker. Baker later returned.When the green flag dropped again, it was Andrew Blackwood leading. Blackwood held on strong and took the win.

  • Breaking News Crawford one step...

    Van Wyck's Shawn Crawford moved one step closer to bringing home another gold medal in the men's 200 meter at the Beijing Olympics.

    Crawford, the reigning 200m Olympic champion, qualified in the first round of competition Monday morning, coming in first in his heat with a time of 20.61. Crawford won the event in the 2004 Athens Olympics with a time of 19.79.

    CAMDEN – Once again, county rivals Andrew Jackson and Buford will have to wait until it counts to claim football bragging rights.A year ago in the Founders Federal Credit Union Kickoff Classic at AJ, the hosts Vols and Jackets tussled to a 13-all tie. In their regular-season clash, BHS notched a 31-28 overtime win.They tangled again Friday night in the opening game of the 33rd annual Camden Shrine Jamboree at Zemp Stadium.

    Former Lancaster Golf Club champion Chris Johnson holds a five-shot lead heading into the final round of the club championship tournament today at the LGC.Johnson, playing from the white tees with the rest of the championship field, shot a sizzling 67 in the opening 18 holes Saturday.“Chris is going to be awful tough to catch with a five-shot lead going into Sunday,” said Fredrick Thomas of the LGC staff.

  • Reynolds set to defend club title

    Jeff Reynolds will defend his Lancaster Golf Club championship this weekend, seeking to top a field of 23 hopefuls in the two-day tournament.Reynolds, in capturing his first LGC title last August, won a second-hole playoff with Drew Walters, the USC-Lancaster golfer who finished as the runner-up medalist in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament earlier this summer.Reynolds, down as many as four shots in the final six holes last year, made a solid late charge to force the play-off with Walters.

    Success came quicker this year in the annual Sooper Dooper Pooper at the annual Meet the Bruins on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.Buck the bull made his winning “drop” in a matter of minutes in the featured event, the cow patty bingo.The winner was Doug Barnes, who had the winning ticket for the “spot” on the east end of the field.Barnes said the Pooper win was somewhat of a bargain for him.“I had just paid $1,000 for a corporate sponsor ad with the booster club, but I really didn’t expect a trade-off like th
