  • Belles win district crown

    The Lancaster Southern Belles softball stars are headed back to the state tournament to defend their state crown.Lancaster, rebounding from a first-round 6-5 loss to Union, earned its revenge and the District II championship with a 12-0 win over the Union all-stars on Monday night in Chester.Lancaster scored at least one run in every inning but one on the way to the shutout victory.Right-hander Jena Hallman, who worked five innings, hurled a four-hitter and fanned six. She walked two. Hallman, for the tournament, was 2-0 with 12 strikeouts.

  • AAA stars earn district berth

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-stars, on the heels of a thrilling win, are bound for the Dixie Youth district tournament.The AAA stars, who went 3-0 in the double-elimination sub-district tournament, captured the championship with a 5-4 win over Union National at the Chester County Complex.The AAA stars’ crown sends them to the Dixie Youth district tournament in Union where play opens Monday at 8 p.m.

  • Post 31 juniors split twin bill...

    The Lancaster Post 31 American Legion junior baseball team split a home twin bill to cap regular-season play Tuesday night at Eggleton Field.P-31, 11-7, 10-4, opened the twin bill with a 13-3 win over Gaffney, but the visitors turned the tables in the nightcap with a 6-4 win.In the opener, which was scheduled for seven innings, Lancaster closed out the win in six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.Dillon Hydrick, who had two hits, scored three runs and three runs batted in, sealed the verdict as he stole home for the final run in the bottom of the six

    A year ago, the Lancaster Debs didn’t even field an all-star softball team.This summer, the Lancaster Debs stars are the class of the S.C. Dixie Softball District Two field.The Lancaster all-stars capped a 3-0 run in the double-elimination tournament with a convincing 13-2 win over Chester at the Chester Middle School field on Sunday.“We’re real proud of these girls and the way they came together,” Lancaster coach Ron Johnson said. “They played well in all phases of the game – offense, defense and pitching.

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-stars continued their solid sub-district tournament play with a 6-1 win over Union National on Saturday in Chester.

  • Post 31 juniors sweep by Clover

    The Lancaster Post 31 junior baseball team continued its solid late-season play sweeping a road twin bill from Clover Post 28 on Monday night.The P-31 juniors, 10-6, 9-3, topped Clover 2-1 and 9-1.The Lancaster juniors of coach Michael Anderson have won three straight and four of their last five games in League V play.In the opener at Clover on Monday, Adam Eubanks worked five innings for the win. He allowed no runs, four hits, two walks and hit a batter.Eubanks fanned two.

  • AAA all-stars rout Rock Hill

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AAA all-stars (ages 9-10) came on strong to take a 14-3 win over Rock Hill in the sub-district tournament in Chester on Friday night.

  • Junior play tight at annual break

    The boys’ 15-18 age division is tight following the completion of the first half of the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association tournament at the Kershaw Golf Club on Monday.Taylor Banks holds a narrow lead in the overall points with 66 points. Banks and Russ Faile each shot a 71 in the 18-hole tournament.Three golfers shot a 75 to tie for second.The trio included Corey Robinson, Charles Caldwell and Gavin Witherspoon Jr.Trevor Banks, who carded a 76 for third place, is second overall with 61 points.

  • Juniors blank York 6-0

    The Lancaster Post 31 junior Legion baseball team kept pace in League V play, blanking York 6-0 at Eggleton Field on Thursday night.
