  • Stars shine in Aquatics

    Staff Reports

    The fifth annual swimming championship meet was held last week at the Leroy Springs pool. While the storm cut the meet short on Wednesday, the swimmers were able to complete their competition on Thursday.

    Elizabeth Catoe claimed six firsts during the meets. Gracie Scott, Anna Scott, Jory Pettit and Cody Brown each had four firsts.

    Jonah Faile and Bree Morgan had three firsts. Luke Sowell, Emily Durant, Chandler Hinson, Kailee Glover and Logan Phillips had two firsts.

  • O-Zone claims two in tourney

    Staff Reports

    The Lancaster O-Zone team, ages 11-12, downed Lexington, 16-1, in game two of state tournament play in Denstville.

    Corley Faulkenberry led off the inning by drawing a walk. Tripp Rollings walked and Doopy Cloud came up to bat with two outs and two men on base and knocked a two-run double scoring Faulkenberry and Rollings.

  • Blackwood takes win in FASTRAK...

    There was plenty of action at Lancaster Motor Speedway Saturday night.

    In the Young Guns main event it was Cayce McGuire and Andrew Blackwood in Row 1. Austin Baker and Andrew Yandle were in Row 2. As the race got under way McGuire jumped to the lead with Blackwood in second. An early caution was brought out when Blackwood spun out as he was closing in on McGuire with a few laps left. McGuire held the lead after they restarted and took the win. Following him were Austin Baker, Josh Langley, Andrew Yandle and Andrew Blackwood.

  • AAA all-stars sweep district

    Lancaster National AAA all-stars, ages 9-10, will be vying for the state title in Hartsville. They earned that right by defeating Clover, 9-1, and claiming the District II championship title in Union on Thursday night.

    Clover scored one run on two hits in the top of the first inning. Lancaster came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the first. There were no scores in the second, third and fourth. Lancaster scored the remaining seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

  • P-31 juniors state-bound

    The Lancaster Post 31 Juniors earned a trip to the state tournament next week with a 10-8 win over Rock Hill Post 34 Friday night at Eggleton Field.

    Lancaster, down 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, responded with four runs as Kendall Adams drilled a bases-loaded double, plating two runs.

    Two Rock Hill errors allowed Adams to score, giving Lancaster a 5-3 lead.

    Rock Hill fought back in the next inning, scoring three and tying the game at 5.

  • All-star quartet eyes state title

    Four Lancaster youth softball teams head to Sumter today with the same goal – a coveted state championship.

    Teams representing the Darlings, Ponytails, Belles and Debs girls softball programs will launch play this weekend at Sumter’s Dillon Park.

    Each team qualified for the state tournament after capturing district championships at the tournaments held in Chester the last weekend in June.

  • Rain top scorer in sports

    Staff Reports

    While the much-needed rain of the last few days helped with the drought situation, it put a dent on Lancaster County sports events on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    The heavy precipitation prevented Lancaster Post 31 junior and senior teams from playing. The Aquatics team could not complete their meet for the 10 and under on Wednesday afternoon.

    The Dixie Boys 14-year-olds only played half an inning before the game was called. Other teams never got to play.

  • Lancaster tops Rock Hill

    Lancaster Post 31 Juniors took Game 1 of the American Legion playoffs in dramatic fashion as Will Gaston slugged a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Rock Hill Post 34, 5-3, on Monday night at Eggleton Field.

    Lancaster, the second-place team in League V, took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Adam Eubanks scored Andrew Smyre with a sacrifice fly.

    Lancaster extended its lead in the third as Kendall Adams singled and scored on Joseph Threatt’s RBI.

  • Annual Aquatics meet gets under...

    The annual Aquatics meet is returning to Lancaster.

    The season-ending meet for the recreation summer swim league will be held over two days starting today at the Lancaster County Pool.

    The pool is located at the corner of Wylie and York streets adjacent to the Lancaster County tennis courts.

    The swim meet includes the four-team field of Lancaster, Chester, Kershaw and Camden. The LCST Sharks went unbeaten during the regular season which was held in June.

  • Rain doesn't dampen racing...

    Rain caused some delays Saturday night at the Lancaster Speedway, but it didn’t stop the action.

    In the young guns main event the front row was shared by Andrew Blackwood and Caycee McGuire. Blackwood jumped to the lead early but while racing for first McGuire bumped Blackwood, causing Blackwood to fall to second. From that point on, McGuire held on for a strong finish. Behind him were Blackwood, Andrew Yandle, Josh Langley and Brandon Blackmon.
