  • LGC to have new champ

    For the first time in three years, the Lancaster Golf Club will have a new club champion.
    Taylor Banks, the club champion for the last three years, will not be back to defend his title this weekend when the annual tournament is played.
    The two-day, 36-hole tournament opens Saturday morning and concludes Sunday afternoon.

  • Bear Hug Brawl kicks off Aug. 24

    The second annual Bear Hug Brawl, a junior varsity football jamboree, is set Saturday, Aug. 24 at Buford High School’s Jackets Stadium.
    The jamboree is held in memory of Buford High School junior varsity football player Seth Muennich, who died after being struck by an auto in the area of Buford Middle School two years ago.
    Event proceeds support Seth’s Giving Tree Projects and scholarships. The foundation was named Seth’s Giving Tree after one of his favorite childhood books and its story.

  • County prep teams open scrimmages

    Lancaster County high school football coaches will have a good idea where their respective teams stand after today.
    Teams, in accordance to S.C. High School League rules, launched contact drills at mid-week.
    Teams can have their first official scrimmage today, and all four county teams plan to be in action on the road.
    Lancaster High School hits the road for a scrimmage with Class AA foe Chesterfield High School at 6 p.m.
    Georgetown High School was slated to be part of the scrimmage at CHS, but will not attend.

    Lancaster Super Speedway will host six divisions of racing highlighted by the return of the Heintz Performance Limited Late Models on Saturday, Aug. 10.
    The LSS racing card will also feature the Montgomery Towing Super Street, Deal 1 Auto Sales Crate Sportsman, Cauthen Motors Pure Street, Lancaster Speedway Vintage and M&M Garage Muffler & Tire Extreme 4 Division.
    In the Deal 1 Auto Sales Crate Sportsman Division, Hank Taylor will have to start in the rear of the field after capturing three straight wins.

  • Chiefs sign McIlwain

     

    Kamaal McIlwain’s latest stop in the National Football League is the Kansas City Chiefs.

    Kansas City, in an effort to bolster its secondary, signed McIlwain to its preseason roster Thursday, Aug. 1. He is listed on the KC defensive depth chart at right cornerback.
