  • Bruins blitz Bengals, 26-10

    The Lancaster Bruins, even with the coolest night of the season to date, showed they’re not ready for football hibernation.

    The Bruins, 3-3, were tough  bears, clawing the Blythewood Bengals, 26-10 on LHS homecoming 2010.

    The 16-point Lancaster win came after two tough home defeats, including a 17-14 overtime loss to Ridge View last week.

    Andrew Jackson High School senior two-way starter Darrien Henderson stays on the move for the Volunteers’ football team.

    Henderson, a 5-9, 180-pounder, rarely gets a break during AJ games.

    The Vols’ four-year varsity member is in his second year as the starter at quarterback. He also leads the defense at safety.

    “Due to injuries, he’s been thrust into a lot of different roles on the team this season,” Andrew Jackson coach David Moore said. “He’s stepped up with our injuries.”

     BUFORD – Andrew Jackson survived 137 penalty yards to hold on and defeat county rival Buford, 21-12 in a bone-rattling Conference IV-AA thriller at Buford on Friday night.

    Indian Land, off to its best start in school history, puts its unbeaten 6-0 mark on the line in hopes of a happy homecoming to highlight week seven in county prep football play.

    The Warriors host Cheraw in a battle of unbeaten teams in Conference IV-AA play.

    In other action, Lancaster, coming off a homecoming win, is bidding for a solid start in Region III-AAAA play at Rock Hill.

    Buford will host Andrew Jackson in a battle of county foes seeking to boost their playoff hopes with a league victory.

    Andrew Jackson swept a home volleyball match with county and Region IV-AA foe Buford on Tuesday.

    The Lady Vols swept the Lady Jackets, 3-0 in the varsity match, 25-10, 25-14, 25-16.

    In the junior varsity match, the AJ girls downed Buford, 2-0.

    The Junior Lady Vols prevailed, 25-22 and 25-15.

    Earlier in the week, AJ fell to Chesterfield. AJ visited Cheraw on Thursday, while Buford hosted Lee Central.

    LHS swimmers to state

    The Lancaster High School swim team will compete in the state meet in Columbia on Saturday.

    The LHS girls golf team continues to improve its record with an unbeaten 8-0 mark.

    Lancaster posted its lastest win, downing Northwestern on Thursday at the Rock Hill County Club.

    The LHS girls shot a 204 to NWHS’s 210.

    Anna Jenkins of NWHS was the medalist with a 38.

    Indian Land High participant, Alexandria McCain, led the LHS team effort with a 44, while Carly Funderburk continued her steady play with a 48.

    Carley Snyder improved her score, firing a 53. Rachel Hovis shot a 59 and Madison Sullivan had a 69.
