  • Dixie AAA, Junior stars rolling

    The Lancaster AAA all-stars stayed unbeaten in the state tournament, taking a 6-3 win over Hartsville on Monday night.Lancaster forged a 6-0 lead and held on for the three-run win over the host team.Zachary Todd squeezed home Austin Rape for a 1-0 lead in the third. An inning later, Scottie Moser ripped a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.In the fifth inning, Gunnar Lucas’ sacrifice bunt scored Alex Brasington who had tripled. Brasington had two hits on the night.

  • Sumter halts Juniors' run

    State runner-up Sumter halted the Lancaster junior American Legion state baseball hopes with a 9-6 win Saturday at Lake City High School.Sumter, the tournament’s top-seeded team, took an early lead and was able to hold on for the three-run win.Sumter Post 15 broke a scoreless draw with a five-run second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Lancaster, the fifth-seeded team which finished 16-10, answered with two runs to make it 5-2.Sumter countered with three runs to rebuild its spread to six runs. Each team added a single run in the fourth to make it 9-3.

  • P-31 rallies, ousts Gaffney

    The Lancaster American Legion Post 31 junior baseball team earned a measure of revenge and a berth in the state tournament’s final four Friday afternoon.

    Lancaster, 15-9, rallied for a 6-2 win over regular-season League V champion Gaffney to stay alive in the double-elimination state field at Lake City High School.

    P-31’s four-run comeback win advanced it to an elimination game with top-seeded Sumter on Saturday afternoon.

  • Sertoma to host tourney Saturday

    The 23rd annual Lancaster County Sertoma Club golf tournament will be played Saturday at the Lancaster Golf Club.

    The format is a captain’s choice event. Each team will receive a handicap based on the handicap total of the four players. No player will receive more than a 20 handicap. Teams can enter, or individuals will be assigned teams.

    All handicaps will be verified by a tournament committee. Seniors 65 and older can hit from the yellow tees with an adjusted handicap for the course rating.

    Buford High School golfers Trevor Banks and Taylor Banks continue to duke it out on the links in the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association.

    Trevor Banks shot a sizzling three-under 69 over 18 holes from the championship tees at the White Plains Country Club to win the boys 15-18 age division tournament on Monday. Trevor Banks’ three-shot win over Taylor Banks pulled them into a first-place tie for the age division points lead at 86 each. Will Riggins finished third at White Plains with a 76.

  • Juniors look to rebound after...

    The Lancaster American Legion Post 31 junior baseball team will have to battle back to stay alive in the state tournament at Lake City.Lancaster, the fifth-seeded team in the eight-team field, dropped an 8-5 loss to fourth-seeded Conway on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round at Lake City High School.Lancaster, 13-9, held an early 5-0 lead on Conway, but couldn’t hold on in dropping the loss.Will Gaston, the third of three Post 31 hurlers in the game, took the loss. He worked three frames and allowed three runs, four hits and no walks.

  • AAA, Dixie Boys 13 stars bid for...

    Two Lancaster Dixie Baseball all-star teams will launch their state championship hopes Saturday.The Lancaster AAA stars, ages 9-10, will battle in the state tournament at Hartsville, while the Lancaster Dixie Boys 13-year-old all-stars will play in Lexington.The AAA stars, who are unbeaten at 6-0 in postseason play, will face Mid Carolina in the 12-team field at Hartsville.“We feel we have as good a chance as any team in the tournament,” said Lancaster AAA all-stars manager Mike Lucas.

  • Ponytails win state crown

    The Lancaster Dixie Ponytails are riding high after winning the state championship and a bid to the World Series.The Lancaster Ponytails, in a do-or-die situation, rebounded from a tournament-opening loss to Hartsville to defeat Hartsville 5-0 for the state championship on Wednesday night at the Bobby Richardson Recreation Complex in Sumter.In the title game, Katy Ghent, who won three tournament games, went the distance, allowing one hit and a walk.
