  • Warriors hold off Jackets

    INDIAN LAND – The regular-season finale between county rivals Buford and Indian Land brought out all the emotions one might not expect.
    In the end, IL had the victory smile with a 23-19 win.
    The Jackets and Warriors have struggled this season, going a combined 4-14 overall with neither team having a region win entering the clash.
    By game’s end, there were tears of joy and sadness alike.
    There were hugs of celebration and comfort, and there was shared concern for a fallen player.

     The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers earned a bid to round three in the Class AA Upper State volleyball playoffs, posting a 3-1 win over Keenan High School of Columbia on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

    Lancaster High School senior wide receiver Austin Franceschelli is making the most of his senior season.

    At the same time, the 5-9, 160-pounder will tell you he wishes the Bruins’ record – 2-7, 0-5 – was better.

    Indian Land High School will have its share of representation in the annual North-South All-Star football game next month in Myrtle Beach.

    IL head coach Mike Mayer, a North assistant coach, will be joined by Warriors’ senior wide receiver Manny McCord.

    Frances Whitesides turned in a stellar effort to spark the seniors – LHS class of 2014 – to a 56-14 win over the juniors in the annual Lancaster High School powder puff football game on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Memorial Stadium.

  • Vols trio leads tri-county high...

     

    Four Lancaster County high school football standouts – three from Andrew Jackson – reaped top honors at the week nine meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association.

    The Volunteers’ ace trio included quarterback Kolby Whitley, defensive lineman Mason Kirkley and kicker McKenzie Denkins.

    Playoff seedings will be on the line for Class AA teams as week 10 in the 2013 Lancaster County football season unfolds.

    For the second straight year, all Class AA teams qualify for postseason play as AA will again crown two state football champions.

  • Lady Vols, Jackets roll in...

     

    Andrew Jackson and Buford opened the Class AA Upper State playoffs in impressive style on Monday with each posting 3-0 postseason wins.

    The Lady Vols, 17-3 and a top seed as the Region IV-AA volleyball champion for the third time in four seasons, rolled to a 3-0 victory over Pelion – 25-19, 25-9, 25-7.

  • Rucker, South set to battle today

     

    Lancaster area middle school football rivals A.R. Rucker and South will meet today in a 5:30 p.m. game at Lancaster Memorial Stadium.

    The game marks the second clash between the Lancaster area rivals this season.

  • Lancers host Region X soccer...

     

    The University of South Carolina Lancaster will host the men’s and women’s Region X soccer tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3.

    Matches are slated for the field adjacent to the Carole Ray Dowling Center. Saturday matches begin at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
