    Brent Hodges’ gamble paid off and he captured the 2013 Montgomery Towing Super Street Stock Shootout at Lancaster Super Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 31.

    The race featured three segments, with Timbo Mangum taking the opening segment. Andrew Baker took the third.

  • LHS swimmers register two...

     The Lancaster High School swim team upped its record to 3-0 with a pair of wins over Rock Hill and Hartsville at the Lancaster County pool.

    The Bruins downed region foe Rock Hill, 148-38 and took a 141-46 win over Class AAA opponent Hartsville on Thursday, Aug. 29.

  • Jackets’ early surge keys win...

     

    BUFORD – For the Buford Yellow Jackets and Indian Land Warriors, the 2013 high school football opener Friday, Aug. 30 was a tale of two halves.

    The host Jackets jumped to a 28-point halftime lead only to see the Warriors storm back with a shot to win in the final minute.

  • Bruins hold off Vols, win

     

    KERSHAW – Lancaster built an early lead and had to protect it on the way to a 22-12 win over Andrew Jackson’s upstart Volunteers on Friday, Aug. 30.

    The Bruins forged a 15-0 halftime edge en route to the 10-point win, but determined AJ never went away.

  • Parker track club honors top...

     

    A season of splendid success was celebrated at the annual Columbus Parker Track Club banquet at A.R. Rucker Middle School on Saturday, Aug. 24.

    The CPTC, a Lancaster youth track club, continued its tradition of excellence during the season which spanned the spring and summer.

    The Mangano family captured top honors in the sixth annual Family Promise of Lancaster County golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 24.

    The Mangano family’s victory came in the captain’s choice tournament held at the Lancaster Golf Club.

    BUFORD – With only five returning experienced senior starters, it’s important that Buford High School linebacker-wide receiver Troy Cunningham step up his role this season for the 2013 Jackets’ football team.
    From a playing standpoint, BHS coach Mike Wells would be pleased with a duplicate effort from Cunningham on the field.

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers have their share of experience this fall as they defend their region title and seek to make another solid postseason volleyball run.
    Coach John Verdugo, in his fourth season leading the Lady Vols, returns eight players from a team which went 19-9.
    The Lady Vols won the region title with a 10-0 mark and finished as the Class AA Upper State runner-up. AJ’s region crown was its second in three seasons.
