  • Jackets sack Knights, 46-21

    BOONETOWN – The Buford Yellow Jackets, with a strong rush, are playoff-bound.

    Buford, bolstered by a productive ground attack, sealed a Class AA playoff bid with a 46-21 win over North Central on Friday night at the Knights’ field.

    Buford, needing a playoff-clinching win over the host Knights, ignited in the second half and cruised to the 25-point rout.

  • Cox signs with Southern Miss

    Andrew Jackson star golfer Emily Cox is headed south to take her game to the next level.

    Cox, an all-state golfer and the 2016 Class AAA state champion, solidified a verbal commitment to Southern Mississippi University, signing with the Golden Eagles at the Lancaster Golf Club on Thursday night.

    Cox noted several factors in her decision to attend Southern Miss, a Conference USA member located in Hattiesburg, Miss.

  • Women’s powerlifters win...

    HEATH SPRINGS – Pardue’s Iron Club in Heath Springs sports some strong women.

    As it turns out, they are top in the nation.

    A team of Pardue’s Iron Club women powerlifters captured the national title at the 365 Strong Nationals at the Courtyard by Marriott in Charlotte where the meet was held Oct. 29.

  • LHS runners finish strong

    The 2016 Lancaster High School cross country season concluded at the Class AAAA state championship meet at the Sandhills in Columbia on Nov. 5.

    The LHS boys and girls teams performed well in the state qualifier meet to advance to the state and the Bruins finished their season well at the state meet with a host of runners hitting new personal records and/or season-best times.

  • Bruins survive Cavs, advance

    PONTIAC – The Lancaster Bruins, by the skin of their claws, are in the Class AAAA Upper State football playoffs.
    LHS, 5-5, 2-3, held off hard-charging Richland Northeast to edge the Cavaliers, 28-26 on Thursday night at Harry Parone Stadium in Pontiac.
    The Bruins’ two-point win sends LHS, the fourth seed out of Region III-AAAA, to Belton-Honea Path to battle the 9-1 Bears on Nov. 18.
    Lancaster earned its bid to the postseason, surviving a frantic finish to end the tight game.

    BUFORD – The 10th-ranked Andrew Jackson Volunteers concluded their regular season in impressive fashion Friday night, posting their third straight win and seventh of the year, ripping rival Buford 33-7 at Jackets Stadium.

     AJ, behind the running and passing of Dalton Haven, cruised to the 26-point win on BHS Senior night.

  • Blazers charge back, down Bruins

    Lancaster had the early points, but as it turned out sixth-ranked Ridge View scored the final points in a 29-26 Region III-AAAA win over the Bruins on Friday night.

    The 8-1 Blazers’ comeback win foiled Lancaster’s fast start on LHS Senior Night at Memorial Stadium. The Bruins, 4-2 at one point this season, dropped their third straight loss.
