  • Mangum captures win over Watkins

    There was plenty of action for dirt racing fans at Lancaster Super Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 9.

    u In the Late Model main event, Timbo Mangum and the Rock Hill “Bad Boy Ben” Watkins were in the front row. When the green flag dropped, Mangum, Watkins, Johnny Pursley and David Yandle battled for the lead.

  • AJ’s Sowell signs to play at...

     

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School senior guard Dareisha Sowell returned to her prep alma mater for one final shining moment Friday, Aug. 8.

    Sowell, a five-year starter for the Lady Volunteers, was back in Big Orange Country to secure her future, signing with Erskine College to play basketball for the Flying Fleet.

  • Coaches reviews mixed

     

    Reviews were mixed for two high school head football coaches following the first scrimmages of the season for teams Friday, Aug. 8.

    Indian Land High coach Mike Mayer said he was pleased with the Warriors’ overall effort in a rain-shortened 90-minute session at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia.

  • Teams prep for scrimmages

     

    A trio of county coaches will have a better idea about their respective teams as they engage in scrimmages today.

    Andrew Jackson, Buford and Indian Land will compete in scrimmages today, with Lancaster’s first scrimmage set Tuesday, Aug. 12 at Ardrey Kell high School in Mecklenburg County, N.C.

    The Bash at the Moose was all about the Gamecocks on Monday, Aug. 4 when the Lancaster County Gamecock Club held its summer meeting.

    A group of 82 USC supporters attended the event held at the Lancaster Moose Lodge.

    Former three-time World Champion Grandmaster James E. White of Universal Karate Studios, came out of retirement to win another Title Fight at the Old School Karate Nationals held at the Sportsplex Arena in Greensboro, NC on Saturday July 12.

  • Kennington to defend title

     

    Defending Lancaster Golf Club champion Mike “Red Man” Kennington will be gunning to make it two straight crowns this weekend, Aug. 9-10, at the LGC.

    Kennington is one of 14 golfers in the club championship field which tees off Saturday in quest for the 2014 title.

  • Late Models in spotlight...

     

    Lancaster Super Speedway will host six divisions of racing Saturday, Aug. 9 after a rainout last weekend.

    The Saturday night card features the Late Models (Limited Late Models) headlining the program.

  • Coaches see early progress

     

    Early prep football practices have Lancaster County coaches with an upbeat feeling.

    Preseason workouts opened Friday, Aug. 1 and teams have progressed to the point they are ready to begin full contact and open their scrimmage schedules.

    Brady Hinkle and Logan Sowell continued their stellar play as the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association capped its 2014 season with the two-day Roy Small Junior Championship at the Lancaster Golf Club on July 28-29.
