    BUFORD – The 10th-ranked Andrew Jackson Volunteers concluded their regular season in impressive fashion Friday night, posting their third straight win and seventh of the year, ripping rival Buford 33-7 at Jackets Stadium.

     AJ, behind the running and passing of Dalton Haven, cruised to the 26-point win on BHS Senior night.

  • Blazers charge back, down Bruins

    Lancaster had the early points, but as it turned out sixth-ranked Ridge View scored the final points in a 29-26 Region III-AAAA win over the Bruins on Friday night.

    The 8-1 Blazers’ comeback win foiled Lancaster’s fast start on LHS Senior Night at Memorial Stadium. The Bruins, 4-2 at one point this season, dropped their third straight loss.

    INDIAN LAND – It was senior night for the Indian Land Warriors, and they faced a very tough opponent in the region-leading Fairfield Central Griffins.

    The third-ranked Griffins, 7-2, 3-0, proved how tough they can be, rushing for 388 yards and didn’t punt until the start of the fourth quarter in their 39-8 win Friday night.

    AJ faces Gray Collegiate

    AJ continues its postseason hopes in Class AA Upper State volleyball tournament as the Lady Vols venture to Gray Collegiate of Columbia on Monday.

    AJ, the Region IV-AA runner-up to North Central, opened the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Liberty at home on Wednesday.

    The Gray Collegiate War Eagles, 26-9-1, advanced with a 3-1 home win over Christ Church of Greenville.

    The seniors captured the win to highlight the annual Buford High School powder puff football game Oct. 19 at Jackets Stadium.

    The game is an annual feature of Buford High homecoming week and the BHS seniors won in comeback fashion, 20-14.

    Sydney Sullivan, who was crowned the 2016 BHS homecoming queen at the Jackets’ football game on Oct. 21, sparked the seniors’ win.

    Andrew Jackson High School senior golfer Emily Cox won the combined Class A-AA-AAA girls individual state golf championship at the Carolina Springs Golf Club in Fountain Inn on Tuesday.
    Cox, a Class AA all-state golfer as a junior, defeated Peyton Gillespie from Christ Church School of Greenville with an eagle on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

    BISHOPVILLE – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers kept their winning streak going as they defeated the then-undefeated Lee Central High School Stallions at Bishopville on Friday night.

    AJ senior Dalton Haven was the standout player accumulating 209 yards of offense on 29 carries.

  • Big plays boost York over LHS

    A pivotal bang-bang sequence just before the half shot a big hole in Lancaster’s hopes for a happy homecoming Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

    Lancaster, on the way to a 35-24 loss to the surging York Cougars, trailed all night, but just before half, in lightning-bolt fashion, the Bruins ignited for 10 points to seemingly get back in the game.

    Lancaster, down 21-7 at one point, was able to pull close as Jacob Cato drilled a 29-yard field goal with 35.6 seconds to play in the half.
